Children in Scotland Manifesto - pushing GRA

Just read the 'equalities' section of the Children in Scotland manifesto. It is totally captured. No mention of Sex at all. Barely a passing mention of disability. But disappointment the GRA reform in Scotland was halted (Was this even going to apply to children?). They ask political parties to commit to three things. The third is "Bringing forward legislation to reform the GRA to ensure a rights-based approach to obtaining a gender recognition certificate'.

Children? Gender recognition certificates?

Tibtom · 10/03/2021 14:43

It is not clear whether they are suggesting children should have them but if not why is it in a 'manifesto' for children?

I think it's like Carthago delenda est ("Carthage must be destroyed").

The phrase originates from debates held in the Roman Senate prior to the Third Punic War (149–146 BC) between Rome and Carthage, where Cato is said to have used it as the conclusion to all his speeches in order to push for the war.

[...] He then restlessly called for its destruction, ending all his speeches with the phrase, even when the debate was on a completely different matter.

I'm not in Scotland and I've only skim read, but I think the following is the most concerning:

"We were disappointed that the Scottish Government recently halted plans to reform the Gender Recognition Act to make the process of applying for a Gender Recognition Certificate easier. Children in Scotland believes this should be a priority for the new government. More broadly, we believe a faster pace of progress is required to
support ongoing cultural and societal change to create an inclusive and non-discriminatory Scotland. "

Under 16s cannot obtain a GRC (and it is more onerous for 16 and 17 year olds to obtain one than it is for adults) so why is a children's organisation opining on this? Angry

inclusive and non-discriminatory

There's a chilling phrase - because you know it translates to "huge numbers of people being shunned for wrongthink".
