Hidden Homicides. (Femicide)

It's depressing reading/listening but I recently came across a series on femicides which were never properly investigated and ruled as something else. www.tortoisemedia.com/file/hidden-homicides/

I know there are countless cases of women who aren't taken seriously by the police and then end up dead by their partners, but I'm amazed to learn about how in some cases after the woman has been killed the police don't properly investigate their deaths - despite there being a history of domestic violence.

Lots of murderers get away with murder. It’s how we end up with serial killers. Murderers are not that rare, and at any one time there are probably a half dozen serial killers uncaught operating in the U.K.

I know police do make mistakes and inquests rule suicide when it’s murder, but often that is due to lack of evidence. The evidence needed to prove murder is very high.

So yes, it is depressing. But, I have not seen however any study that there’s a gender gap of say more male murder victims killers being caught than female murder victims killers being caught. Wouldn’t surprise me if there were a gender gap, but not aware of one per se.

I get that there needs to be a certain level of evidence for murder and that it's just not possible to bring charges sometimes even though it looks like it, and that there are cases of murders where the person hasn't been caught. But I'm amazed at some of the cases where there was no investigation to begin with. In one case a man says he rolled over while heavily drunk and asphyxiated a woman as they both lay on a sofa. The guy is believed and no investigation opened despite the fact that five years earlier another of his partners died suddenly too.
