I'm sure a number of us here will want to describe their experiences.

Women's health: Female patients to be asked about 'gender health gap' www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-56300404

Erm???

Gender health gap means something totally different to the health gap that exists between biological males and females. Sex is separate and different from gender.

Gender health gap would be something to do with a health gap between different genders. Like if there was a health gap between those who identified as trans and those who didn't.

If things carry on as they are, I think society might create a gender health gap because sex and gender are being conflated even in health care.

eaglerising · 06/03/2021 08:28

Or widen the health gap between the sexes, depending on whether gender ID serves one biological sex better than the other...

ErrolTheDragon · 06/03/2021 08:37

Gender is pretty obviously being used as a euphemism for sex in this instance, perhaps to avoid misreading as relating to sexual health. It's irritating that gender now is used to mean something else (unclear exactly what) nowadays but the substance of this is more important than the label so perhaps best not get diverted by it?

WarriorN · 06/03/2021 08:42

Yes it's a shit title.

Sex health gap!

I'm too tired due to peri and chest infection to be as on the ball!

However this is an important consultation.

I was talking to a struggling mum yesterday about her issues trying to get help with peri menopause issues. She's been to hell and back trying to get some one to listen.

They mean sex not gender 🤦🏻‍♀️ hopefully it’ll be a great opportunity to point out the importance of using sex when sex is what they mean

Agreed - heard about this on the radio today - all about women.

Please submit responses regarding your experiences. Remember medicine has a history of discriminating against women-
Lack of inclusion in medical research
misdiagnosis - i.e heart attack symptoms
Mental health - the mental disorder of ‘hysteria’
‘It’s only women’s issues’
Vaginal mesh scandal- no research on impact on sexual function - hey that’s fine - the woman can always have anal sex instead (Drs suggestion).

And now - the removal of our language - mother, maternity, women, breast. We are being actively removed and erased from our own healthcare

Please submit.

[quote AlwaysColdHands]Ah, I was just coming on here to post the link, consultation from March 8th

Great day to launch it! And they used the correct word (shit that we have to notice that.)

Thankfully I only had breast cancer and not chest cancer...

WarriorN · 06/03/2021 09:07

Thanks eagle

The bloody BBC! The stupid ‘gender health gap’ come from them. The actual link is FULL of the word ‘woman’ and ‘female’ and make it very clear they’re looking for reports from women about their specific sex based health experiences.

YouSetTheTone · 06/03/2021 09:18

*edit, I looked again more carefully and two of the medical professionals used the phrase ‘gender health gap’.

eaglerising · 06/03/2021 09:29

I'm too tired due to peri and chest infection

A chest infection which would necessitate different treating than a breast infection, I presume?

eaglerising · 06/03/2021 09:30

Treatment

Lol yes very much so!

Thankfully I only had breast cancer and not chest cancer...

You mean for diagnosis you had a mammogram instead of a chest X-ray? How very gender non neutral and exclusionary of you.

Conflating ‘chest’ and ‘breast’ which are different anatomical regions in healthcare - what could possibly go wrong?

I hope you are ok now. Flowers

PearlescentIridescent · 06/03/2021 09:55

I will let them know of my poor maternity care with my first child and the absolute refusal of the midwife to offer pain relief.

We are far too passive toward what women suffer through in labour.

Sickoffamilydrama · 06/03/2021 10:09

I'm not particularly familiar with the process for submitting to these calls for evidence there doesn't seem to be a link on the .Gov website or am I missing something?

Sickoffamilydrama · 06/03/2021 10:10

AHH just gone back and read it a third time how did I miss the bit saying opens on 8th March 🤦‍♀️

FannyCann · 06/03/2021 10:37

This report from the Telegraph looks very positive, at least to a casual read. All about women's health, mentioning several sex specific issues.

"The project has been prompted in part by a growing understanding that much of the evidence behind medical advances is biased towards men, "

Women going through the menopause may get new rights in the workplace digitaleditions.telegraph.co.uk/data/530/reader/reader.html?social#!preferred/0/package/530/pub/530/page/31/article/148669
