If you're in Australia

www.march4justice.com.au

Rallies are planned for the 15th of March across the country.

For those outside of Aus - some background information on the events of recent weeks.

Is it possible to sign the petition if you're not an Australian resident..?

bigredkangaroo · 05/03/2021 20:16

Yes, open to all I think.

“Women are angry and they are tired. Tired of mansplainers and misogynists, and those who bleat #NotAllMen instead of asking #WhySoManyMen? Tired of women who have benefited from feminism yet refuse the label of “feminist”. And tired of having to once again fight the battles that women in the 1970s and 1980s thought they had won.”

Such a powerful paragraph in The Conversation article.

I just love this cartoon.

It is such a great article and the women I talk to are tired and we're angry that things are no better now for our daughters than they were for us.

Oh wow, this looks good bigredkangaroo

I’m Adelaide based so thanks for highlighting Star

DifficultBloodyWoman · 06/03/2021 23:06

There is a march in my city and I am thinking of joining but I do have one concern.

What is our philosophy?
We believe by respecting gender and working together we can achieve more than working separately.

Unfortunately, I have reached a point where the word ‘gender’ sets off alarm bells.

I need to do some more research on the organizers and the agenda here. I’m open to suggestions and information from others if you would like to point me in the right direction?

gardenbird48 · 06/03/2021 23:08

Isn’t this the march that changed its name to remove the word ‘woman’ recently?

I would like to know more on this point too. The website doesn't give much detail. Thanks for posting OP.

@DifficultBloodyWoman
Unfortunately, that sentence stands out glaringly for me, also. Until I can confirm the stance held (precisely), I just can’t assume women (of the designation xx) are centred.

WhoWh0 · 07/03/2021 03:52

At first viewing, there are a number of mentions of “gendered violence”, “gender equality”, and an aim of “All Australian Parliaments gender equal by 2030”.

Given the lack of real information other than slogans, a lack of background/mention of organisers, and strategic use of “gender” rather than “sex”, I will reserve judgement.

This March was literally brought together over social media a week ago and has been scrambling to get its name and mission clear. However there is an incandescent rage in Australia at the moment over the government's attitude to rape victims. The Attorney General, head of all law in the land, has been accused of rape.
I'm unable to march but have donated to support them.

Let’s be clear - he was reported to police for the rape of a 16 year old when he was 17 many (20-30?) years after the fact.

The women reported the historical allegations to the police but did not make a formal statement. She withdrew the allegations and then committed suicide a few days later.

Rumors were swirling and the attorney-general came forward to say that the allegations were made about him but he completely denied them. He was not interviewed by the police as the woman in question never made a formal statement. He will not have the opportunity to cross examine his accuser.

Innocent until proven guilty is still the law of the land.

I do think there are reasons to march. This is not one of them.

I’m not a member of the group mentioned, so can’t speak to the veracity of this story. It dors sound sadly true, as these things go. This is from Holly Lawford Smith’s site.

WhoWh0 · 07/03/2021 06:49

Yes, I agree that it has been a scramble to get everything together coherently. Further reading about the organiser/philosophy/etc gives more of a focus specifically on women (rather than gender).

EHopes · 07/03/2021 07:33

A person called Sarah has been added to the admin team in most state organising groups and has worked hard to ensure that these groups remain inclusive to those who don't question gender ideology (somehow a number of women have been blocked for asking for a coherent definition of women).

The fact it is now a march4justice instead of for women is not surprising.

EHopes · 07/03/2021 07:37

I believe that Canberra (the political class) is rotten to the core.

That the AG should have stepped aside temporarily to allow his name to be cleared (or not) rather than claiming something didn't happen.

That this IS a time we should March. But only if we have a coherent request. Without defining woman the whole thing is ridiculous.

And more than one woman has been attacked and banned from groups set up to discuss and organise due to 'inclusion'.

MishyJDI · 07/03/2021 11:36

This march is not about transgenderism. It's about Australian misogyny, macho culture, and respect for all women.

Generally I believe that women don't make up rape allegations. This is a very sad case.

But it's deeper than that. It's challenging Australian culture and the patriarchal politics in Canberra. Something former PM Julia Gillard famously called out. Well over due!

If they are blocking people like that, then unfortunately, I am unable to March.

First, because they’ll block me too.

And secondly, because that is not the type of feminism I support.

There absolutely are reasons to march. The domestic violence stats in this country are horrific and there is a concerted effort by some to roll back the few protections that women currently have in place.

ItsLateHumpty · 08/03/2021 01:35

Well, this has turned out to be very disappointing. I think I’ll be washing my hair that day.

ixqik · 08/03/2021 01:59

Quite certain that the organisation has been, captured, shall we say.

Delphinium20 · 08/03/2021 03:54

Good luck Australian sisters!!! Sending love from the states.

ekkythump · 08/03/2021 04:26

' Australian sisters'.

I wasn't going to post again but this has perked me up a bit. I would love to hear about any Aus groups specifically working to protect women and children from domestic violence.

dontwanttoliveonthisplanet · 13/03/2021 01:21

Yep, not going because it's somehow become all about trans and getting transwomen in female prisons.

Lib fems really are handmaidens

WhippetyStourie · 13/03/2021 06:27

How disappointing.
