She appears to get it.

Kemi Badenoch - sensible response

Kemi is fabulous.

TabbyStar · 04/03/2021 09:20

My god. I am so torn. I find myself agreeing more with Tories and it absolutely fucking kills me a bit inside to say that. But when it comes to womens protection, they are making the most sense.

This is how I feel. That speech on critical race theory was blistering. That's also some of the stuff I want to say but would lose work if I did. I don't agree with them about privatisation etc. though.

Moonmelodies · 04/03/2021 10:46

She's widely tipped as a future Tory leader, popular in and out of the party.

YouSetTheTone · 04/03/2021 10:58

@sashagabadon

I like Kemi a lot. And yes the comparator is the persons own Sex isn’t it in the EA? So a women’s refuge single sex would need to make sure a trans man was not unfairly treated compared to other females but would not have any duty to a trans woman? That’s my understanding. For equality, service providers have to make sure they treat everyone of the same sex equally and do not exclude them. People seem to misrepresent this and think it means that trans women have to be treated the same as women but actually the comparator for trans women is men. So male services cannot exclude or unfairly treat a trans woman compared to men using the service.
I had not fully realised this! Jesus. WHY isn’t this sort of thing repeated to people in sensible terms everywhere? Kemi Badenoch seems to genuinely be supportive of women (hurrah) - I hope she and people like her can start actually spelling out that fact here. It needs to be known more widely- surely?

Really? That could be a game changer. It would drive the left nuts too.

From what I have seen so far, she seems to be a politician of calibre, sadly rare in modern politics.

andyoldlabour · 04/03/2021 11:26

Kemi is turning out to be an exceptional politician, long may she continue. If only the Labour party had someone like her.

Wow, wouldn't that be something! Certainly make up for what the Tories have inflicted on us with Johnson.

Once you see it, you cannot unsee it.

Got a lot of time for Kemi.

Labour, sadly, would never let a woman of her quality and ability rise to the top.

They had. Look up some of Anne Ruzylo's speeches on youtube. Watch the articulacy, command of facts, life experience and ability to respond on the spot to questions so well without advisors and pre written speeches - how often do you see any minister with this kind of talent?

Anne was chased out of the lower echelons of the Labour Party. As tea says, women of this quality and this independence of view are not allowed to rise. (See Joanna Cherry and Lisa Duffield for how women are kept in line once they have managed to get through the ranks.)

DaisiesandButtercups · 04/03/2021 14:52

It raises questions that women of such quality are for the most part held back by the parties of the left.

I can never say this out loud and I feel a bit sick.

I've been politically homeless for so long now that I ignore which party they stand for.

If they talk sense I thank them! And tell others they are good and sensible people on whatever topic they were talking.

GreenIcing · 04/03/2021 15:01

Brilliant! A voice of reason on this topic.

But I feel so torn.

I saw her speaking on that programme about black people and coronavirus the other night, and she was so disingenuous. Kept insisting there was no issue with coronavirus and race and wilfully ignored and glossed over the fact that health inequalities and socio economic disadvantage disproportionately affect black peoples so it IS a race issue. Felt like punching the screen.

I’ll stop short of ‘Kemi for PM!’, I think.

Justhadathought · 04/03/2021 15:22

Very impressive! One to watch out for, for certain.

highame · 04/03/2021 15:50

Greenicing - the jury's still out on the Covid-19 deaths. Obesity and age are first and foremost. The scientists are at trying to find out what exactly is the issue but the god awful junk that has come over from the US for decades is an abomination. I will wait

I'd stop well short of it too. She is our constituency MP and is utterly crap at it.
