Alternatives to boycotted brands

I thought it might be useful to have a thread where MNers can help each other find alternatives to brands they’re boycotting for whatever reason. For example, I’m no longer buying from the Body Shop because of its JKR response, but there is a product I absolutely love - a Himalayan clay face mask. I have some left in a big pot but won’t be buying it again, so I’d love it if anyone knew of a similar product from a different company. Anyone else have something they’d like to replace?

I think there was a good resource thread a while back- I’ll have a poke for it.

Can’t find it... maybe start a new one with reasons for avoiding certain ones? It’s easy to forget which ones have taken an aggressive stance towards women and which ones have just hacked you off personally!

Starter for ten:

Always
Audible
Body shop
Oatly
Natracare
Superdrug
Lush
Love Honey
Flora (etc)
Pret - a personal one! For their labelling ‘hack’ they used to do that meant they could sidestep proper ingredients labels on their sandwiches - so people weren’t made aware of potential allergy risks with deviating outcomes.

Cosmo/ teen version

Flora gave me my current run of butter-related user names! Grin

Let’s not forget the ‘good uns’ Alra comes to mind! They only care about their moo-cows... Grin

Alpro alternative to Oatly. Are they ok?
Innocent owned by coke so I am hoping pepsi are ok?
Naturli do a good dairy alternative spread better than the flora plant based ones. Available in health shops.

I can't confirm if they are pronoun police though. Can anyone confirm?

TheBuffster · 26/02/2021 10:38

Effing hell. What did superdrug do? I get all my cruelty free stuff from them!
In some cases would it be worth letter writing? I did to Oatly but very unsatisfactory response. However, now they know why I'm boycotting.

Pratting about by labelling their own-brand sanitary pads with "people who menstruate".

metro.co.uk/2020/09/04/superdrug-launch-inclusive-sanitary-products-for-people-who-menstruate-13225543/

Wokebros who had never ever looked at a sanitary pad packet spent the week lecturing women on twitter that all other brands had 'woman' on so we should get over it. (No, they most definitely don't.)

PotholeParadies · 26/02/2021 10:51

Oreo, for posting Trans People Exist on twitter last night.

It's such a pointless observation. In a way, I'd be less annoyed if they'd screeched We hate t**fs. Do they really think there are feminists arguing about this who think it's purely a hypothetical discussion?

Liquorishtoffee · 26/02/2021 10:58

Oreo got their backsides handed back to them by the very people they were trying to court. Always satisfying to see a PR campaign backfire.

I’m often quite amazed at how short sighted companies are when the developers products or campaigns that just spectacularly fail (hoover free BA flights anyone?). Or the ‘teach her to talk!’ swearing nazi dolly... But I digress...

Liquorishtoffee · 26/02/2021 12:50

Oatly - make your own!

MemoryIsRAM · 26/02/2021 13:05

I've always preferred Bodyform to Always, well, since Always became scented anyway. Bodyform are unscented.

Instead of Flora we use real butter or sometimes Lurpak (which is Arla).

We used to buy Oatly chocolate milk, but as none of us are vegan I just buy own brand chocolate milk now. The teens don't care.

MemoryIsRAM · 26/02/2021 13:06

I said 'We used to buy...' but actually, it's me - I used to buy. I am the person who does the shopping, so it's my choices that decide where our money goes.

I do think the woke companies have forgotten that this is broadly true for the majority of households.

CheeryTreeBlossom · 26/02/2021 13:29

After Oatly's patronising I've switched to Oato getting it delivered to my doorstep by milk&more in glass bottles.
Better for the fwr cause and the environment, win-win. Tastes fine straight in my coffee but haven't yet tested frothing it up for a cappuccino.

AdHominemNonSequitur · 26/02/2021 13:43

Tampax - who are proctor and gamble and also make gillette and herbal essences.

I use Grace and Green Products now, they don't use the word woman much that I can see, but neither do they use terminology like menstruator. They are expensive, but really nice.
I swapped my venus razor for a traditional safety razor and would never go back now.
I use faith in nature instead of herbal essences now (sulphate free)

I haven't found a substiture for Lush Orchid Cleanser yet which I will miss. I used to spend a fortune in there. I hoped they had woken up when I heard about the donation to WPUK, but then they doubled down.

Minor figures oat milk is really good.

Liquorishtoffee · 26/02/2021 13:57

Radio $ - my ears are bleeding right now...

Liquorishtoffee · 26/02/2021 13:57
