Women in rugby - and 'lexical priority' approach

I like this article in OU News
ounews.co/arts-social-sciences/why-the-world-rugby-guidelines-banning-trans-athletes-from-the-womens-game-are-reasonable/
Seems like sound logically applied arguments ... hard to refute.
But I especially like the author's 'lexical priority' approach which could be applied to many situations.

"What does that mean? From the possible set of rules that exist, it means first selecting those that are safe, then the safe rules that are also fair, then the safe and fair rules that are maximally inclusive.

This approach — first, do A, then B, then C — is better than an opaque attempt to “balance” all three at the same time."

That’s a good article - thanks for sharing. I’ve seen Jon Pike on Twitter and he seems very sensible.

That’s a good article, it lays it out very clearly.

Still can’t believe that we’re at a stage where we have to lay out the reasons why it’s not safe or fair to permit male bodied individuals into women’s contact sports, rather than just saying “duh! Course it’s not fair”, but there we go.

We didn’t seem to have any of this angst when I was playing and the committees were pretty clear over which group of players didn’t merit any funding, pitch time, representation on the committee or access to coaches. It all seemed quite clear cut then Hmm

I notice England Rugby is recruiting for the role of Women and Girls Council Member. I hope plenty of suitably qualified GC candidates apply!

Good article, be interesting to see if the OU have the balls to leave it on there.

A couple of years ago I did one of their free courses, 'teaching sport to young people'

The section on separating the sexes at puberty for safety and fairness vanished in the middle of the course, and was replaced by a nice cuddly 'discussion' about the girl who brought a court case against the FA's blanket female exclusion policy.

A bit like Ross Tucker, Jon Pike has gone full GC on Twitter since being involved in the World Rugby workshop. Since then, he’s seen every pathetic argument for the inclusion of males in women’s sport thrown at him and has seen the abuse levelled at women saying the exact same things as he does.
As much as it pains me to say it, Sport will only change once then men speak up. We need more men like Ross and Jon speaking with us.
