This article is great - totally agree. So WHY has some fool who works for the BBC decided that the homepage headline for the story should be 'It's so important all genders are involved in this conversation.'

What are 'all genders'. It's also specifically not what Gaby Logan said. The BBC Hmm

Actually the article annoyed me a little. It would be nice if men decided to take some initiative and look into things themselves rather than have it spoon-fed to them by talking to their wife etc given the problems women have with getting drs to take them seriously, having to fix mens lack of knowledge by involving men in the conversation is an extra layer if responsibility.

But maybe I missed the point

It annoyed me too, though I couldn't quite put my finger on why. It might not have been unconnected to having just been reading that bloody 'Karen' thread in AIBU and thinking, great, now us older women have to explain to our male bosses and younger work colleagues about why we're tired and anxious and permanently PISSED OFF and try to get them to 'join the conversation.' I have complete faith that that's going to go well. What could possibly go wrong there?

And yes, the 'all genders' thing was just ridiculous.

In fact, thinking about it, it probably annoyed me because I'm menopausal. And the world is full of ageist, sexist fuckwittery and ever will be thus.

Itsl just felt like it was just one if those constant moments where we cabt talk about anything in any great detail or discuss problems that we face because of it without making sure we acknowledge that somehow men have it just as bad

Will we see an article on.impotence saying how wives and colleagues need to be aware..

Mind u I did just see an advert fir one if those subscription period boxes . They raised money fir sanitation amd supplies abroad too and yet there were comments that men have to deal with with stigma of periods and its all so female biased.

Why don't men do something then why does everything have to involve men. Nothing is stopping them from hitting Google. Ffs

I’m in 2 minds about it. I’m being hit hard by menopause atm and the euphemism “vaginal dryness” to describe the hell of vaginal atrophy can get in the fucking bin!! I’m so angry about the lack of awareness in GPs but even more about the lack of decent treatment once you do get a diagnosis! If men had a similar issue there would be about half a dozen over the counter remedies by now so anything that gets it more talked about us good

But equally the tired cynic in me just sees another opportunity for society to add to list of reasons why women are inadequate humans “urgh! First they have periods then they have babies and then just when you think they’re going to function properly they have menopause!!urghhh what a pain they are”

Well.viagra is advertised on the TV now...

I agree these things should be talked about. But why is it always up to women to solve all the inadequacies all the time... pointing out the obvious most the time. It just kinda feeds into the whole " well there's so.many.more serious things to he dealing with right niw" stance. Like we literally have to solve everyone else's problems before we dare mention ours...

The 'all genders' thing comes from a quote at the bottom of the article by 'Sarah Graham, a freelance health journalist and founder of feminist health blog Hysterical Women'.

Here is Sarah's blog -

hystericalwomen.co.uk/about/

Although the primary focus of this blog is on women’s health, it is inclusive of all women (trans or cis), trans men and non-binary people who are interested in these issues.

So a blog about non-men's health, basically Hmm

I don't think Sarah's quote added much to the article. I suspect the BBC sought it out as 'balance' because Gabby Logan only talked about women and men and the BBC couldn't have that.

What health issues might I have in common with a transwoman that I wouldn't also have in common with a man?

SmallPug · 24/02/2021 18:31

I didn't read to that quote at the bottom. JFC. We can't even have the bloody menopause to ourselves. Can I outsource mine to a man when the time comes...
