So Glasgow Museums celebrate diversity by claiming one of Scotland most celebrated female artists wasn't actually female (and then apologise by saying she didn't identify as non binary because the term hadn't been invented) God forbid we celebrate an actual woman m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=3656288074418648&id=149366908444133

Brilliant. Let’s just go through every female artist who ever presented as ‘gender non-conforming’ - which would include a fuck ton of women who dared to pick up a paintbrush or fight their way into Art college or life-drawing classes when it was deemed unacceptable or plain ‘not allowed’ as mere women - and let’s reclassify them as non-binary. And if they showed any indication of being a lesbian we can say they ‘self-identified’ as lesbians and make out that’s something they ‘did’ rather than ‘were’. Glasgow Life - you are truly showing disdain for your female citizens.

@MichelleofzeResistance

Quite.

Lesbian - female homosexual, that's one thing.

Non binary - you what?

Did this woman ever to anyone's knowledge choose that label for her inner identity or is this being imposed from outside, because I thought that was all kinds of wrong?

Or are we saying that female homosexuals are transgressing against womanhood so obviously are no longer women? Because that's a really interesting opinion that ought to be thoroughly aired out in all its glorious homophobia and insanely sexist gynephobia.

That's the clear implication to me.

They also said in the apology post that she self identified as a lesbian

That is the first time I have ever heard someone described as a "self identified" lesbian! What do they think usually happens? You get nominated or elected and given a membership card to the lesbian community?

Also, I bet that having died in 1963, Joan Eardley had never heard of "non-binary" as a description of a human being.
