Some Good News! 23 US States have Legislated to protect Women's Sports!

To start the day with some progress - hooray! Nearly half the states in America have brought legislation to protect biological girls in sports and exclude biological males.

The wording on a couple of them is a little dodgy but the intention is absolutely clear - to exclude males. I'm sure they are keeping a close eye on slippery wording.

I have no idea how legislation in America works and how this state legislation interacts with Joe Biden's Executive Orders but this looks very positive that some grown ups have got the message and are seeing sense.

Now that has cheered me up Grin

News to celebrate. What surreal times we are living in.

There is no place for male bodies and their male sense of entitlement in women's sport.

These look like bills submitted to State legislatures as proposals to change the law. There's still a way to go before they might become law.

persistentwoman · 18/02/2021 09:41

More signs of push back. Excellent. Eyes are starting to open world wide and although the MRA agenda has a strong foothold in legislature the word over, the evident injustices are starting to have an impact on public opinion.

Yes, that's the positive to focus on.

I posted this in an earlier thread:

Congress may try to overturn an executive order by passing a bill that blocks it. But the president can veto that bill. Congress would then need to override that veto to pass the bill. Also, the Supreme Court can declare an executive order unconstitutional.

Congress is controlled by the Democrats so that route won't be open for a while. But there could be a challenge in the Supreme Court. Which is interesting in view of the appointments by Trump.

It's sunlight. Regardless of the woke agenda, much of the US is conservative (small c). The media has tried to avoid the conflicts, as did ours for quite some time, but the dam will burst

BelleHathor · 18/02/2021 09:58

Ken Paxton the Attorney General of Texas has had meetings with Conservative groups who are pushing him to file a case against the Executive Order. Texas is a good state to seed a case as the first appeal court is mostly Republican so should hopefully reach the Supreme Court sooner. This twin pronged pincer movement is an excellent strategy. I hope the Democrat leadership keeps being distracted trying to sue Trump, to give these options time to work.

NeedToKnow101 · 18/02/2021 10:02

Great news! Common sense prevailing!

wonderstuff · 18/02/2021 10:09

Excellent, any push back has to be positive. I think I'm right that attempts to put women's rights explicitly in the US constitution were never successful, so it will be interesting to see how the judiciary interprets this if it gets to them. Will the conservative bias that Trump pushed through ultimately support women and girls or will there inherent misogyny crush it?

But push back, eyes opened, the tide really does seem to be turning. Smile

I'll bump this cheerful news up the list , thanks for posting

PandorasMailbox · 18/02/2021 13:13

Fantastic news! The pushback begins!

Some bad news... Democrats are trying to reverse it at the national level...

www.advocate.com/politics/2021/2/18/equality-act-reintroduced-us-house-vote-next-week

"The Equality Act, which would ban anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination throughout the nation, was formally reintroduced in the U.S. House of Representatives Thursday.

The act would amend existing civil rights laws, such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Fair Housing Act of 1968, to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity."
