Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Wouldn't it be good if we had GC education alternatives and female GC youth icons.

DC was recently sent a link to Skater Boy by Avril Lavigne. I watched with him (he's young). It brought a massive wave of sadness over me: where are the girls like AL now? They're all non-binary. If you're a girl like AL you're no longer a girl.

I listen to Ben Shapiro (because I like listening to people I don't agree with!!) and he's involved in making a movie specifically for people on the Right. He's also connected to some online uni that seems to be on the right too. The idea behind it all is the Left have captured media and education so the Right need to organise themselves.

Got me thinking about GC people. Wouldn't it be good if we could be do similar? I have no idea how and I assume the US Right is much better funded than us, but imagine a university where GC views didn't have to be hidden for fear of losing your job/tenure being denied? Or young women in popular culture who did whatever they were good at while being unashamedly a woman and not in any way pornified? Who advised girls to become financially self-sufficient by ways other than Only Fans etc?

Maybe pie in the sky, but it would be good.

Definately. The Freedom in academia movement is gaining momentum, so I think it is starting to happen here. Sometimes I feel depressed about the state of things too and think we've lost already, but I think there are some really inspiring GC/Secular Liberal icons including in the trans community doing great work to combat trans identity politics and how it is playing out in the SJM. On here yesterday was someone looking to philantropically donate for a GC Scholarship and a really thoughtful, intelligent secondary student posting about nonsense gender science at her school. So common sense is still to be found. I think Gen X are way less "woke" than Millenials and many Boomers are probably not fully aware of the issues yet. I know the powerful international network of lesbians have been aware of this for ages, but it has been hidden from everyone else and mostly achieved by stealth in the shadows. Stonewall are making increasingly frequent clumsy mistakes and I think their day of reckoning is coming. Most people are not zealots, just scared and going along with the fuzzy inclusion double binds.
It's in the light now and we've barely begun on the push back.

You sound very positive. It's nice to read! I'm worn down at times be the onslaught of it all.

I heard yesterday - I've not been able to find out if it's true though - that universities in The Netherlands are legally bound to practice and maintain freedom of speech. If that's true, I wonder if it's the only country like that and if it is something that would be worth fighting for in the UK. I also wonder if it's true, if/how that has impacted the trans discussion there.

I think it's all happening. Young women are active in (radical) feminism. I spoke to several at the WPUK conference, there are many young women like Dr Jess Taylor, Marguerite Stern (& Femen), Meghan Murphy, Nehanda, Sacha White & MJ Fain, absolutely knocking it out of the park. I would add Pussy Riot but only really know them for being extremely brave in standing up to the Russian state, not due where they stand in the gc debate.

I got I involved with Cambridge Radical Feminist Network because of an awesome young student Manic Magpie posting on Mumsnet about her weekly protests in Cambridge City centre.

Then since last autumn we have our own feminist quarterly The Radical Notion to discuss and debate feminist politics. And the editor of that Dr Jane Clare Jones also runs online courses.

Young women are rocking it as far as I can see 👍

Sure not due. And how could I forget Kiera Bell and the awesome detransitioners?!

Another inspiring young writer & speaker is Raquel Rosario Sanchez

Meant to link to this piece on Marguerite Stern

I agree these women are all knocking it outside of the park in their own ways. They're unbelievably impressive.

They're not pop stars though are they? Or in movies. You have to be almost actively following the issues to know about these women. You don't, for example, passively know about Dr Taylor's Victim Focus unless you go looking for her and it. It's not something you'll listen to as you're relaxing, or watch on Netflix.

As an aside, I see Victim Focus now has a training course. Dr Jess Taylor should win some kind of women in business award for how she's combining her PhD, passion and earning an income through harnessing online world. Not "only" academically smart!

I've been feeling more positive as I've been speaking up more in liberal groups online, and get very little push back when I say trans women are biological males, and therefore not women.

I only get one or two lefties arguing with me (and they do a poor job of it). If the left has seriously embraced TWAW like mainstream media makes it appear, there wouldn't be so much silence about it when the subject comes up. It's like many people are just afraid to say what they really think.
