I was going to post on this older thread, but MNHQ asked “Why not start a new thread?” So here it is.

Is there proof that this has ever happened?

OP posts:

No.
There was some evidence of faked photos - a supposedly cut hand which had been lifted from elsewhere iirc.
Why do you ask - are you a representative of the actual Snopes org?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/02/2021 13:34

I was mightily impressed by the speed and expertise with which the claim was debunked. Google image search for the injured hand picture, and there it was, hand of a famous person some years earlier. There was talk at the time of the police possibly pressing charges for wasting their time, but I don't know if that happened.

@ErrolTheDragon

No. There was some evidence of faked photos - a supposedly cut hand which had been lifted from elsewhere iirc. Why do you ask - are you a representative of the actual Snopes org?
Nope, not a representative of the org, and have changed my username to reflect that. Was actually kind of surprised it wasn't taken; but then, it was probably unwise to take it for just this reason.

I'm asking because I'm interested, and this has in the past proved a helpful resource for people like me who are too lazy to do actual research. Am happy to PM with bona fides, such as they are.

yourhairiswinterfire · 14/02/2021 13:54

On Page 25 of the original thread, Prawnofthepatriachy posted a link to a British Transport Police statement that confirmed it was a hoax. Unfortunately the link doesn't work anymore, but Prawn had quoted a bit.

British Transport police have confirmed that claims of razor blades under stickers at Oxford Road station in Manchester were a hoax. And they're not best pleased. From the press release:

"...hoaxers waste considerable police time and divert our much-needed resources from other duties. We will continue to monitor the situation and will take further action should this malicious activity continue."

snopeynope · 14/02/2021 13:59

Thanks, I saw that, but it was just one incident. I gather it’s something of an urban myth. Still, was curious if anyone has info about other incidents.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/02/2021 14:02

This forum discussion says it goes back to at least the days of the National Front and was probably a myth then.

No there never was any evidence. Seemingly another attempt by the trans rights activists to paint themselves as the delicate victim, and women as the violent aggressors.

twitter.com/notmynigel/status/1039156106243657729?s=20 This is a tweet which shows very clearly the fake image and the news story it came from.

You mean like this?

Razor blades and stickers
Helenia · 14/02/2021 14:18

Looks somewhat deliberately staged.

AnotherLass · 14/02/2021 14:24

I looked into this at the time that the daft accusations were made. My immediate instinct was that it sounded like an urban myth.

There are a few stories from the 1970s and early 1980s of razor blades being found behind National Front posters, but I couldn't find any hard proof.

There was this recently in the Times, but I'm pretty skeptical www.thetimes.co.uk/article/neo-nazis-concealing-blades-behind-posters-fhljzz382

BrownFootStool · 14/02/2021 14:50

It didn;t happen. At the time I contacted both Oxford Road and the Briish Transport police and they said it didn't happen--- then they officially said a hoax.

Cheers. I've been here for a while.

I remember being warned about this in the 1970s, supposedly done by the National Front. Never heard of anyone who had actually seen a razor behind a poster. That's not to say it couldn't have happened, of course. But, come to think of it, the main result of this rumour spreading by word of mouth was bad publicity for the NF, whether deserved or not.

This time around, it sounds more like deliberate lies.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/02/2021 17:04

Another word is "lie"
