Just had a good (short) segment on LBC as well. The consensus being 99% of women shouldn't change their language for a small number of trans people. It should be done on an individual basis.

FamilyOfAliens · 10/02/2021 09:56

I went in their website and it’s the weather Grin

perpetualnamechanger · 10/02/2021 10:14

They are about to discuss this on Jeremy vine on channel 5 right now

perpetualnamechanger · 10/02/2021 10:15

Apparently everyone calling in about it

HermitsLife · 10/02/2021 10:20

Thanks for making me watch Jeremy Vine Hmm

Go Andrew Pierce!!!

perpetualnamechanger · 10/02/2021 10:22

It's on after milkshake....

Sorry!

And yes go Andrew!

perpetualnamechanger · 10/02/2021 10:28

Becca said it's fine if it's anatomically off and lots of other offensive drivel.

Even referred to herself as the C word at the start.

Claire the breastfeeding support was excellent.

HermitsLife · 10/02/2021 10:30

I see the issue here, the blonde lady (sorry I missed her name) has clarified it. The people trying to remove us from our biology see breasts as purely sexual organs. They do not see breasts as body parts that serve a biological function.

HermitsLife · 10/02/2021 10:31

Becca is an idiot

MrsSimonBasset · 10/02/2021 10:35

Watching now and most callers think it’s ridiculous nonsense . Becca is just vacuous. Why are these “men” getting pregnant and breastfeeding? I.e The most feminine of feminine biological functions Hmm

TorringtonDean · 10/02/2021 11:04

If you think back to Shakespeare, wasn’t breast always a word also used for men’s chests? Roman soldiers had breastplates. So what is wrong with breast? After all (to speak heresy) 100% of those breastfeeding will have a uterus.

JulesJules · 10/02/2021 11:10

Men do have breasts, and can get breast cancer. Breast is completely different to chest - this whole thing is just INSANE

BettyFilous · 10/02/2021 11:23

The Today programme even mentioned this story this morning (through gritted teeth by the sounds of it). I don’t know if there was a follow-up segment, but it was reasonably neutral/matter of fact.

Campervan69 · 10/02/2021 11:33

Men have breasts too. That's why they can have breast cancer. The milk is produced by the breast. The chest is a cavity that produces nothing. This is nonsense. Irritating in the extreme.

'Before we commence these medications, you do need to be aware of particular risks associated with them. [goes through list of known side effects]. And there is an increased risk of cancer in certain areas, so you would need to be familiar with self examination techniques. [pause]

Um...you need to check..your..um...chest. Not the rib part as such. Not really the sides, except for your armpit, you need to check that as well. Mainly the bit in the middle. No, not just around the nipple, more than that. No, not the ummmm...chest bone itself, although around the edges of it is included. Your chest, you know. The bit that would be squished in a mammogram? Oh, a mammogram is a special xray of...chests.

Oh, I know - here's a leaflet about breast cancer. Men get that. You need to check your chest like men with smaller chests do. But a bit more often. Because your chest is a bit...bigger...than some men have...No, I'm not saying that's a problem, but it's more difficult to find problems as early when men have larger bits of their chests. Your chest measurement is 28 inches. Ah. Yes, but there are parts of your chest that are a little...larger...than other men. No, of course I'm not bodyshaming you, I'm trying to explain that those bits on your chest - sorry, sorry - your natural - oh shit - those - need to be checked regularly when you're taking a medication that can increase the risk of cancer. What do I mean and where? In those! Your, your - OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE, YOUR BREASTS. CHECK THEM FOR LUMPS. YOUR BREASTS.

I expect this has been on Times radio today. Haven't had time to listen but if it's in the paper and if it has drawn so much attention, then it will definitely have been on. Next time Matt Hancock does a 5pm stint, wonder if chest feeding will come up as a question.

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 10/02/2021 13:40

well that made it clear that women don't like it.

TartrazineCustard · 10/02/2021 14:05

I think we are starting to reach the point that this whole conversation should have been about in the first place: some people identify as trans, and there's some consideration to be made about how to accommodate them and ensure their rights don't get steamrollered. Most people, however, are not trans, and they don't have to change their identities or give up their rights to accomodate people who are. There is a balance to be found, and it will be found through public discussion and (yes) debate.

highame · 10/02/2021 14:20

Well said Tartrazine
