If they have sex without contraception regularly.

Bet they won’t....

FFS.

Christ on a bike - I'd better tell teen DS. When they told me "we understand more about biology than we did back when you were in school" I didn't realise this was what they meant.

Time to have the talk.

I don't want him barefoot and pregnant while he's still in his teens.

Significantown · 08/02/2021 21:39

cara Does being pregnant remove your shoes?

TableFlowerss · 08/02/2021 21:55

I don’t get what the argument is? It’s right. Statistically 80% of women under 40 will get pregnant.....

20% won’t but within 2 years another 10% or so will. After 2 years of trying if a woman is for pregnant there’s likely to be an underlying issue.

TableFlowerss · 08/02/2021 21:56

I meant 80% will after 1 year of trying.

It doesn't say 80% of women though does it...?
TableFlowerss · 08/02/2021 21:59

apologies I didn’t realise it was the feminist board...

In which case, I agree with you OP.

80% of women do get pregnant!

Gastontehladybird · 08/02/2021 21:59

@TableFlowerss the issue is the wording. The world people would denote male and female. Males can't be pregnant. Only women, yet they use the word people to be woke and inclusive of different genders whilst simultaneously eroding the identity and rights of women.
The reality is there are only 2 sexes, only one of which can become pregnant so we should use the correct bloody word. Women.

8 out of 10 women will become pregnant.

HopeClearwater · 08/02/2021 21:59

Couples don’t have babies any more though. They ‘welcome’ them.
Where’s the puke emoji?

TableFlowerss · 08/02/2021 22:01

It doesn't say 80% of women though does it...

@titchy

You’re right - I hadn’t realised the wording. The reason I hadn’t realised though is because it’s a fact only women can get pregnant.

TableFlowerss · 08/02/2021 22:02

The worlds gone bludy mad!

NiceGerbil · 08/02/2021 22:22

8 out of 10 people will get pregnant within a year!

Erm.

All these orgs are relying on people applying a subtext as they print more and more nonsensical stuff.

NiceGerbil · 08/02/2021 22:28

'DO

have sex every 2 to 3 days without using contraception – make sure sperm enters the vagina

try to have sex around the time you are ovulating – this is usually 12 to 16 days before your period starts

try to maintain a healthy weight, cut down or stop drinking alcohol and do not smoke – it can help if your partner does this too'

So the man could cut down weight, cut down booze and stop smoking.

And the woman can consider it?

The whole piece needs rewriting.

Why not just say women and trans men or similar?

Removing the word woman makes it all drivel.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 08/02/2021 22:28

They have a survey. I have vented my spleen.

titchy · 08/02/2021 22:39

Because you'd have to say 'women, transmen, afab nb, female mascs, afab agender, afab 3rd spirit and afab sparkly unicorns' Hmm

NiceGerbil · 08/02/2021 22:44

I'm also not sure about the sperm enters the vagina bit.

I mean you do hear of people getting pg when the come hasn't got right up inside, but surely to maximise your chances of pg it's better to get it right up and nearer the cervix?

I think although this advice page is supposed to be informative they're missing it on quite a number of things?!

nothingcomestonothing · 08/02/2021 22:47

I have sent them some feedback. Fuckwits.

NiceGerbil · 08/02/2021 22:50

The good news is there's a whole separate much more detailed linked page on having a baby if you're LGBT+

It mentions the word father but on the other hand 'person who is intending to carry the baby'.

Par for the course.

The place it mentions father is particularly interesting as it's referring to
'For the intended father, surrogacy can be a route to having a child biologically related to them.'

No such mention of biologically related for the people who carry the babies... Given that being the biological father is and has been a priority for men all over the world and is the basis for things like child marriage, virginity testing, fgm and etc etc etc I find that really very telling.

NotFabulousDarling · 08/02/2021 22:56

I wonder if, rather than gender erasure or heteronormativity, they were trying to point out that infertility in a couple could be either a sperm issue or an egg issue rather than both? IDK. It's awkward phrasing because I think they're possibly trying not to say it's the woman who's TTC's fault if she doesn't get pregnant. How could this be better worded?

NiceGerbil · 08/02/2021 22:57

I'm all for a page for LGBT+ people who want to have a baby. It's the erasing of women in such a cackhanded way on the first page that's pissed me off.

Why can it never be both?

Oh and on infertility

'Infertility in women
Infertility is commonly caused by problems with ovulation (the monthly release of an egg from the ovaries).

Some problems stop an egg being released at all, while others prevent an egg being released during some cycles but not others'

Zero issues naming us when we're malfunctioning Hmm

NotFabulousDarling · 08/02/2021 22:58

@NiceGerbil ugh that other page sounds awful. It must be really shit to be in a TTC lesbian couple and to have to wade through all that crap on one hand and all the "just shag when you ovulate" stuff aimed at M/F relationships.

NotFabulousDarling · 08/02/2021 22:59

@NiceGerbil sorry my first post was aimed at the discussion from the OP, my second post was about the LGBT page.

NiceGerbil · 08/02/2021 23:50

That's ok notfabulous!

All women are asking is that there is extra stuff rather than us being unmentionable, especially when it leads to the nonsensical bollocks on the page the op posted.

I mean it's a fucking publically funded health info service and they have rendered the health info drivel. And apparently either not noticed or cared. Just to delete the word woman asap.

NiceGerbil · 08/02/2021 23:51

The infertility page lists stuff for both men and women.

I only copied a bit.

FamilyOfAliens · 09/02/2021 00:04

I’ve sent my complaint.

It comes to something when the National bloody Health Service apparently don’t know which sex can get pregnant.

NotFabulousDarling · 09/02/2021 00:07

FWIW I fully agree with all of this, especially the linguistic gymnastics being silly. It's a joke that they couldn't find someone with a better understanding of the issues to word their articles.
