New pro-women pro-independence Scottish political party

ArabellaScott · 01/02/2021 14:57

... formed it seems largely from ex SNP members.

Not sure I'm pro-independence anymore, not at the moment while Scottish politics seems to be imploding, anyway. But good to see new, grassroots groups springing up from the ashes of the SNP burning itself down.

Interesting times, indeed.

  • and for what it's worth, as they look to be the only party that are willing to stand up for women's rights, I will vote for them with my 2nd vote, as long as it is possible to do so.

Never heard of them before but ill be keeping an eye on them. My main concern is how hard it is to get a party off the ground, but there might be quite an exodus from the SNP soon.

ArabellaScott · 01/02/2021 15:06

I only heard of them literally five minutes ago, Amortentia! Just watched a video in which they reclaim the word 'woman'.

Yes, I'll be giving my list vote to them. Scotland is crying out for a pro-indy opposition party so I hope they take off.

They have a crowdfunder at the moment to raise campaign funding.

MichelleofzeResistance · 01/02/2021 15:33

Good. I suspect a pro indy group with basic common sense and Joanna Cherry will do really quite well. It will also do the SNP one hell of a lot of good to experience their voters having a choice and realising they have to make themselves electable for more than being the only pro indy party.

ArabellaScott · 01/02/2021 15:39

I don't know if Joanna Cherry has anything to do with this party, Michelle.

OP posts:
theskyispink · 01/02/2021 16:07

No, Joanna Cherry has nothing to do with ISP.

Tibtom · 01/02/2021 16:52

Think independence would be a nightmare. Last time they were hanging on oil to fund it but conveniently ignored the oil slump and loss of thousands of jobs since then. However I know a lot of pro-indy supporters who hate the snp but feel it is the only way to get ibdependence. They would be falling over themselves to votes fir someone else.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 01/02/2021 16:56

She might in the future, she's just been sacked from SNP!

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 01/02/2021 17:15

Can’t stand the SNP and don’t want independence.

But this move by NS is ludicrous. Cherry is one of the few with a brain. I could nearly have voted for her if I wasn’t so anti SNP.

The party is fucked

WhatsYourNameMan · 01/02/2021 18:30

Love the idea of a pro-women party. Absolutely love it.

Independence, however? No chance. I value economics too much.

Still have no clue who to vote for.

SusannaSpider · 01/02/2021 18:54

Just came here to post that video, but I see I'm late to the party as usual!

ArabellaScott · 01/02/2021 18:59

Well, anyone wanting a Unionist pro-women party will either need to make one themselves or vote Labour/Tory.

OP posts:
WhatsYourNameMan · 01/02/2021 19:14

I am not sure Labour is overly pro-women, it's a bit of a mixed bag.

The possibility of voting Tory is shocking to me, but then I live in a world where I turn towards the Daily Mail and Wings Over Scotland for common sense, and regard The Guardian as utterly batshit. Nothing makes sense anymore.

I truly hope so. I'd be very happy to see a second separatist party splitting the vote- or even a third if Cherry goes her own way.
ArabellaScott · 01/02/2021 19:24

No, sorry, WhatsYour, I phrased that badly! There is no Unionist choice that is pro-women right now.

OP posts:
WhatsYourNameMan · 01/02/2021 19:33

Ah yes ok I see.

If anyone wants to make a Mumsnet pro-women pro-Unionist party I'm down for that Smile

SophocIestheFox · 01/02/2021 21:04

Me too to pretty much everything you said, whatsmyname!

SophocIestheFox · 01/02/2021 21:05

Sorry, whatsyournameman, ironically I got your name wrong there Grin

Babdoc · 02/02/2021 09:26

Nobody would be more delighted than me to see the SNP and independence vote shatter into warring pieces, but the truth up here in Scotland is that all unionists need to vote tactically for the party best placed to oust the SNP candidate in each area.

I’m in an SNP/Tory marginal, so the only possible vote for me is Tory.

MrsLangOnionsMcWeetabix · 02/02/2021 10:11

I’ll vote for them, I’m pro-Indy and also very much pro parties who know what a woman is.

For Holyrood I need to vote Tory and for Westminster, Lib Dem. Happy to do so.

Same here and once you've done it once it does get easier.
TooSensibleOfMyDefects · 03/02/2021 07:49

Tactical vote for me would go to Labour. That's actually how I voted last time as I've long held an 'ABS' approach (anyone but SNP). I am pretty certain it will be wasted as it's an SNP high heid yin but never mind...

I do find it shocking and bemusing that as a 'normal' mother of two, working professional, interested in social welfare, public services and keeping the economy afloat, there is not one single party that I feel represents me and my values. Confused

2Rebecca · 03/02/2021 08:05

Last Scottish MSP election I was lib dem and SGP. This time it's both votes Tory. I'm anti leaving the UK though and my Tory local candidate is a GC woman and the current list MSPs are all GC.
