wearencs.com/blog/way-i-see-it-does-astrology-really-define-me

I was with it when it said "the difference between science and pseudoscience, saying a scientific idea aims to disprove itself to prove its validity. Pseudoscience, though, only seeks evidence that supports its claims."

But it fell down later a bit with: "Despite no longer supporting J.K. Rowling, I still remember the world of Harry Potter fondly and I take my identity as a Hufflepuff with pride! "

I mean it's not exactly the worst thing anyone has ever said about JKR, but there does seem to be a gap between the two logically!

You can hardly expect logic

”Popper developed his ideas from observing the different methods of Albert Einstein (who was waiting patiently for the eclipse that might disprove his whole theory of relativity) and Sigmund Freud (who was using his small sample of patients to develop and prove his own ideas in the field of psychology).”

Two different methods. This made me think.
Brain scans where they go looking for tiny differences without acknowledging possible confounders.
The refusal to use control groups as they experiment on children on the grounds that their way is so much better that to withhold it would be “unethical”.

Vis-a-vis the author: she worships something wholly ascientific. Of course she rejects JK Rowling without any thought at all.

The worry is, of course, that many others are equally uninformed and just as easily fooled.

It's an article about astrology? Well, I would expect astrology to line up quite well with gender ideology, tbh.

Well, what do you expect from a Hufflepuff?
Loyalty, not deep intellectual analysis.

That article is not the best. I have observed a negative correlation between the insightfullness of an article, and the number of gifs it contains.

The article is also much longer than it needs to be. It seems to conclude "what I identify as has no rigorous scientific basis, but what I feel is more important and I believe what I want to believe".

Which is honest, at least!

Following re-education I would like to apologise for my deeply HufflePhobic remarks. I apologise sincerely for the deep hurt and trauma my words have caused to badgers everywhere.
To atone for my sins I will spend the remainder of the afternoon self flagellating in the garden, and will donate 37p to a badger.

What she seems to be talking about in amongst the gifs is the theory of how Jungian archetypes affect our psychology and behaviour. She might be surprised to read the way Rowling uses astrology and Tarot from that psychology perspective in Troubled Blood, actually.

That doesn't mean that Tarot and Astrology can be empirically and scientifically employed any more than suggesting using a mantra or phrase in Mindfulness meditation means you are provably connecting with the ground of all being.
