The ACLU strikes a blow for sex based rights <eyeroll>

They aren't pressing for 'sex' to be defined in law, or for women to be drafted, or for the end of the draft but they do think that saying that only men should be drafted is sex discrimination.

''Ending sex-based registration would be a significant advancement in equal protection law for men, women, and LGBTQ people.''

@NotBadConsidering

If there was a draft announced tomorrow in the US, would Chase, being a man, fulfil his legal requirements and turn up to the nearest draft office, or would chase look for any potential legal loophole to avoid being sent to war? Or would Chase act as a pioneer to demonstrate that those of Chase’s sex are just as able to be forcibly sent to a war they may not agree with just like males?
I doubt Chase has actually registered with selective service which every male must do shortly after 18th birthday. So he’d probably just count on his situation never coming up. Then if the US Gov discovered he’d never registered and called him a draft dodger he’d probably file a suit saying it only applies to assigned male at birth people.

But then I don’t have much faith in humanity.

I'd expect a human rights organisation to challenge the draft, and the terrible conditions for women before forcing them to sign up.

I also think that telling women who have voluntarily signed up for active duty that they can expect to be gang raped by every member of their own unit as punishment for reporting rape, or to die of dehydration as the direct result of threats by male soldiers is unacceptable.

Why this isn't seen as a human rights crisis is a baffling, unfathomable mystery.

No one in US military has said that or even implied that. Just more exaggeration from you.

a human rights organisation to challenge the draft

Already done but not on behalf of women, but all humans because conscription is a form of forced unfree labour. UN Human Rights Committee recognised the right for Conscientious Objectors to be excluded from conscription (drafts). So if you as a woman don’t want to fight, just pretend you’re a conscientious objector to war in principle as a pacifist.

Try reading the links before you comment.

'''The women asked to be here, so now let them take what comes with the territory'' said Maj. Gen. Walter Wojdakowski, Sanchez's top deputy in Iraq''
He said that in response to the deaths, after covering them up.

I read the link to “salon” not a reputable news source by the way and all he said “The women asked to be here, so now let them take what comes with the territory''. Referring to deaths by dehydration

No fucking where did anyone in the US military say that
“women who have voluntarily signed up for active duty that they can expect to be gang raped by every member of their own unit as punishment for reporting rape, or to die of dehydration as the direct result of threats by male soldiers.”

Those were allegations made by one colonel and even then she never said that anyone in the US military said anything about women recruits should expect to be “gang raped by every member of their own unit” or to “die of dehydration as direct result of threats”

The most the colonel alleged was that these 3 women died of dehydration because of their own fear of going to the toilets at night. She didn’t allege threats. She didn’t allege a gang rape punishment as the done thing.

You are exaggerating and making things up that were never said.

Look at www.rainn.org/statistics/victims-sexual-violence

Much better than salon :)

US military rates of sexual assault are 6.2% of women and 0.7% of men, vast majority of victims are college aged (18-24).

Compare that to 26.4% of college aged women and 6.8% of college aged men.
