I emailed the WM police, asking why hate crime on basis of sex was not included in their list which could request funding. This is their reply
"Thank you for sharing your concerns in relation to the WM OPCC Victims Fund application criteria.
We will be commissioning a region-wide service in line with national monitored strands of hate crime which include racially and religiously aggravated; homophobic, bi-phobic and transphobic; and disability hate crime. Women living in the region that are victims of any of the five monitored strands of hate crime will be able to access support. In addition, we also shape support services in line with Force reporting through West Midlands Police.
I would like to reassure you that the issues you have highlighted specifically those related to hate crime and misogyny are echoed on platforms that we are a part of. We value the importance of women and girls having platforms such as these to share their experiences whilst having reassurance through support networks that their experiences are valued and changes can be made to tackle discriminatory practises and barriers to accessing support.
We have taken part in the recent consultation by the Law Commission which proposes to improve hate crime laws for women and other groups of individuals and agree that hate crimes on the basis of sex and gender should be monitored and services ought to be improved for victims."
