Not sure how true this is - it's on twitter. If it is true, it is disgraceful. Hope the link works

I thought at first it was click-bait headlining, because the article talks about supporting victims, including the victims of hate crime.
But it’s true, clicking thru, the plan is nothing for ordinary domestic abuse victims.
In line with the increasing need for support services for hate crime, the 2021/22 fund will only accept applications for hate crime support services.

It doesn't give any details so my bet is Stonewall will be front of the queue. Maybe that's just cynical old me, but women lose out once again.

You've got to me fucking kidding me.

Seriously when does it end?

ScaredOfDinosaurs · 14/01/2021 08:29

This at a time when the murder rate of women by partners or ex partners has doubled- absolutely disgusting.

ArabellaScott · 14/01/2021 08:32

Because women are specifically excluded from hate crime, of course.

This lovely chap was previously barred from public office and was deemed unfit to hold the position he currently has.

FFS this is utterly ridiculous.

UppityPuppity · 14/01/2021 08:58

I haven’t clicked - but the trouble with the blatant partisanship of the police is that I can easily believe this to be true - even when it may not be and serves to further erode my trust in them.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/01/2021 09:43

Because women are specifically excluded from hate crime, of course.

Yes, of course.

allmywhat · 14/01/2021 09:53

Well thank fuck they've got funding to protect the victims of mean tweets, funny looks, distressing stickers and declined sexual advances.

It's not like the rape, torture, enslavement, broken bones, attempted or completed murder of women matters when you compare it to men's hurt feelings.

For anyone who like me was unfamiliar with the "Trojan Horse scandal" referenced, here's a long article. Biscuit

And here's the reason he got banned from being a councillor.

Imnobody4 · 14/01/2021 11:18

I'm not sure what to make of this. He's been involved in this www.westmidlands-pcc.gov.uk/police-launch-new-strategy-to-tackle-sexual-abuse/ which runs till 2023.

It looks so off the wall I cant help but be a bit suspicious of what it really means.
The trouble with these redirections of funds is that it isn't a long term solution anyway, one year extra funding is neither here nor there.

GCAcademic · 14/01/2021 12:12

My ILs used to live in the West Midlands. There was a mother and daughter murdered in their street a few years ago, facilitated by firstly the failure of the police to take the ongoing abuse and threats seriously and secondly by the failure of the police to turn up when the victims rang to report this specific threat to kill them.

Obviously just not a priority for them. Mean words on Twitter that hurt the feelings of men are much more important.

Terfterfterf · 14/01/2021 15:53

I emailed the WM police, asking why hate crime on basis of sex was not included in their list which could request funding. This is their reply

"Thank you for sharing your concerns in relation to the WM OPCC Victims Fund application criteria.

We will be commissioning a region-wide service in line with national monitored strands of hate crime which include racially and religiously aggravated; homophobic, bi-phobic and transphobic; and disability hate crime. Women living in the region that are victims of any of the five monitored strands of hate crime will be able to access support. In addition, we also shape support services in line with Force reporting through West Midlands Police.

I would like to reassure you that the issues you have highlighted specifically those related to hate crime and misogyny are echoed on platforms that we are a part of. We value the importance of women and girls having platforms such as these to share their experiences whilst having reassurance through support networks that their experiences are valued and changes can be made to tackle discriminatory practises and barriers to accessing support.

We have taken part in the recent consultation by the Law Commission which proposes to improve hate crime laws for women and other groups of individuals and agree that hate crimes on the basis of sex and gender should be monitored and services ought to be improved for victims."

SunsetBeetch · 14/01/2021 16:11

It's not his first rodeo either.

The new deputy commissioner of England’s second biggest police force was in a group that treated a domestic abuse charity like a “private club”, it is claimed.

Waheed Saleem was a trustee of the Amirah Foundation from 2016 to 2017, charged with making sure the charity was run for the benefit of service users. A whistleblower has told The Times that the group including Mr Saleem were more interested in treating the charity as a social club for Labour Party members. “This was a Labour cartel,” they said. “They were all in the Labour Party . . . influential people who . . . used the charity for selfish gains while vulnerable women suffered by not getting the service they needed.”

SunsetBeetch · 14/01/2021 16:16

I mean...what IS this guy suitable for?

Talk about cronyism!

"Mr Saleem’s rise raises questions about how appointments are vetted. He once mocked someone who committed suicide but was then chosen as director of a mental health trust, an investigation by The Times discovered."

I tell you what, policing is going to collapse under the strain if women start to report every instance of 'hate' against them. I'll be reporting Twitter, in its entirety, daily, for a start.

highame · 15/01/2021 12:44

I hope they do Arabella I just want everyone to see how much hate is levelled at women. Good idea about reporting Twitter.

On another point, the Police have an outward show of concern but there is an awful lot of evidence that suggests if you scratch the surface you will find a seething mass of sexism, racism, homophobia, Islamophobia and transphobia. Every time an issue surfaces, 'lessons will be learned' !!!!!!
