Just seen on Twitter that Mermaids accounts suggest they made a loss this year.

register-of-charities.charitycommission.gov.uk/charity-search/-/charity-details/5054976/accounts-and-annual-returns

E-Mail breach was expensive too.

I am no accountant but links there if anyone is interested.

Thanks to everyone above for the extra info and clarification on charitable funding, accounting years, etc. Makes things much clearer! 👍

They are a bunch of largely unqualified grifters who have got this massive amount of dosh by presenting themselves as an expert body when they are in reality a jumped-up straight parents' support group. It's no surprise to me that they've pissed so much of it away.

PhoenixFawkes · 11/01/2021 17:52

Do you think one of their local support groups is Gendered Intelligence? Mermaid and Gendered Intelligence websites look identical.

SophocIestheFox · 11/01/2021 20:31

Edward Lord is a busy bee, isn’t they? Also responsible for a ram raid on single sex provisions across the City of London, and goodness know what else. Keeps popping up here, there and everywhere on this topic...

OneEpisode · 11/01/2021 21:55

The accounts say they’ve spent time getting their training package CPD accredited. Who would provide that accreditation?

Let's not forget that Lord is a Mason as well. Also his partner (assuming this is still current) is the egregious Meg-John Barker, who also uses singular they/them pronouns and makes a living writing books and articles about being non-binary, BDSM, polyamory, bisexuality and all things queer. Wrote the BACP guide to Gender, Sexual, and Relationship Diversity - now withdrawn? or possibly re-written - which originally included some wonderful nuggets about femininity in Northern women being characterised by aggression, leading to a top thread here about being transnorthern, which seems to have been deleted, sadly.

Didn't they also say the only difference between a clitoris and a penis is the, er, length?
Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/01/2021 00:37

There is a thread by R0wantrees still up about the BACP guide if anyone wants a trip down memory lane or is new to it: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3339137-BACP-Gender-Sexual-and-Relationship-Diversity-by-Dr-Meg-John-Barker

Are they still proclaiming to follow WPATH guidelines?

WPATH's castle is built on foundations of sand.

TrashedWarrior · 12/01/2021 07:34

This is from an affidavit by Stephen Levine for a case in the us about a year ago.

TrashedWarrior · 12/01/2021 07:40

So basically.

The CEO of mermaids is a member of a working group working on the next standards of care outlined by WPATH.

The CEO of mermaids appears to get WPATH to make statements backing up their own non professional opinions.

Mermaids used WPATH as a gold standard to argue for various methods of care advocated by mermaids.

Pretty much anyone can join WPATH. Professional drs in the field are now leaving WPATH.

WPATH expects people seeking transition to have done their own research on hormones.

Anyone want to continue with this shit show fo me?

I'm apoplectic.

Whatwouldscullydo · 12/01/2021 07:42

Wpath also had to recently admit that their guidelines weren't actually best practice didnt they?

TrashedWarrior · 12/01/2021 07:54

As far as I can tell they're making it up as they go along.

So basically that review into the lottery funding is based on a pile of crap.

Molesmokes · 12/01/2021 08:17

WPATH is nothing more than one of those “Trusted Trader” outfits where anyone can pay a fee to join. Same with all the offshoots like EUPATH.

The history of WPATH and an explanation of how Medical Professional Bodies have been captured is included in

”The Terrible Fraud of Transgender Medicine” by Dr Quentin van Meter who was there from the very start, working with John Money at John Hopkins University:

gardenbird48 · 12/01/2021 08:24

It is interesting that they (WPATH and Mermaids) are so keen to ‘discredit’ the term of ROGD.

I’m not sure that anyone is trying to use it as a ‘medically recognised term’ but it is useful as an accurate way of describing quite a significant group of children that form Mermaids clientele.

As they claim to be carrying out ongoing research in an environment of academic freedom you would think that people could formulate and present theories openly (rather like WPATH are doing) and I can’t see any detrimental effect caused by identifying a group of children that clearly have the Rapid Onset characteristic in common. Surely it would just make it easier to discuss and research further?

Why would Mermaids be pleased about this? What descriptor would they use for the phenomenon of gd presenting young teenagers (mainly girls), reported to have shown no previous signs of gd by their parents, that seems to have developed over the last five years?

It makes me wonder what research is actually being carried out and what, if any, contribution Mermaids is making given that they are pretty much a frontline service with the ability to gather all sorts of raw data?

TrashedWarrior · 12/01/2021 08:45

All very good questions garden.

Why indeed.

This video was key to my understanding of WPATH and how it operates. It's by a Christian group and people always bring that up to discredit it, but it's definitely worth watching.

nauticant · 12/01/2021 09:00

Mermaids want to spread the belief that trans is one thing. You have trans children, they transition before or around puberty, they grow up as trans adults, and live happily ever after.

Everything that doesn't fit in with this narrative, for example ROGD, must be suppressed. Once people start thinking about ROGD, their next question is often "Hmmm, in that case, what does "trans" mean?" Questions are to Mermaids what garlic is to vampires.

Molesmokes · 12/01/2021 09:02

Eresh Quentin van Meter has made the same presentation to lots of different groups but I like that one best for the video quality and a minimum of intro-waffle Smile

Like you, I found it an excellent introduction, overview and gallop through the history.

TrashedWarrior · 12/01/2021 09:06

ROGD is increasingly looking like a phenomenon generated via online media by the people paid to do the surgery and life long medical aftercare.

Whatwouldscullydo · 12/01/2021 09:11

Mermaids want to spread the belief that trans is one thing. You have trans children, they transition before or around puberty, they grow up as trans adults, and live happily ever after

And yet they cant define what trans is.

They cant describe a gender identity without resorting to circular definitions and stereotypes. But also claim that its not stereotypes ajd their bodies aren't wrong.

So they want children to be able to alter bodies that are apparently not wrong in the first place based on what exactly?

If you cannot eveb define the terms you are talking about then how can you talk about treatment because what are you treating

highame · 12/01/2021 09:48

On another thread, I've linked to California where they are now insisting Insurers insure minors for medical treatment because they say it is not cosmetic surgery but abnormalities that need correcting. www.insurance.ca.gov/0400-news/0100-press-releases/2020/release140-2020.cfm
