It is interesting that they (WPATH and Mermaids) are so keen to ‘discredit’ the term of ROGD.
I’m not sure that anyone is trying to use it as a ‘medically recognised term’ but it is useful as an accurate way of describing quite a significant group of children that form Mermaids clientele.
As they claim to be carrying out ongoing research in an environment of academic freedom you would think that people could formulate and present theories openly (rather like WPATH are doing) and I can’t see any detrimental effect caused by identifying a group of children that clearly have the Rapid Onset characteristic in common. Surely it would just make it easier to discuss and research further?
Why would Mermaids be pleased about this? What descriptor would they use for the phenomenon of gd presenting young teenagers (mainly girls), reported to have shown no previous signs of gd by their parents, that seems to have developed over the last five years?
It makes me wonder what research is actually being carried out and what, if any, contribution Mermaids is making given that they are pretty much a frontline service with the ability to gather all sorts of raw data?
