Good news!

McDuffy · 09/01/2021 07:46

Promising... green shoots?

CoveHid · 09/01/2021 07:50

Amazing news!

ArabellaScott · 09/01/2021 08:28

Thank fuck for that. Doing it quietly, though, so as to maximise distance from rUK? I hope not, because that would mean the scottish govt was willing to risk children's health and wellbeing to avoid agreeing with an English court. And that would be reprehensible.

HecatesCats · 09/01/2021 08:46

It does seem bizarre that given the evidence (or rather lack of it) following the KB case and the review taking place that Sturgeon would have said anything other than Scotland will be examining its approach to make sure it's in the best interest of children and young people.

ArabellaScott · 09/01/2021 08:59

Everything NS says is calibrated against Westminster And the Scotgov are carefully curating their image as a progressive govt, so desperate to go TWAW wherever possible. Unfortunately the public has twigged, and are very much not on board. We are seeing a populist govt trying to do a handbrake turn without anyone noticing.

rogdmum · 09/01/2021 09:32

I’m very pleased to see this. I just hope that any review takes into account voices of parents like me who want proper talk therapy for their children to work through underlying issues, rather than “assessment” for suitability for a medical path. If they just listen to the usual LGBT Youth Scotland groups etc, we won’t get any further forward re proper care.

highame · 09/01/2021 10:10

I wonder if this is a bit of a ruse. Perhaps using as diversion from the 'definition of woman' court case, or hoping the definition of woman of woman would cover this change.

Although I think they sense public opinion is very much against some of the SG actions (I would hazard a guess that they've had masses of complaints from the public), I can't help thinking there are the seeds of change in political opinion and some backtracking is very likely albeit very quietly over the coming months.

TimeforLaChange · 09/01/2021 10:31

The Game's a Bogey...

They are starting to shite themselves now that the courts are getting involved

They also need to ban that guidance from LGBT Youth from Scottish schools

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/01/2021 10:41

I am pleased to see this. I really thought ScotGov were going to dig their heels in over this.

ArabellaScott · 09/01/2021 10:52

Well, I would guess they are hoping they can just hide and avoid the issue til after May.

It's not going away.

TimeforLaChange · 09/01/2021 10:59

No it's not going away and it needs to be be one of the issues, because if they win, they are going to push this shit through with relish. Scottish voters needs to know about this.

If the opposing parties had any sense, they would use highlight it, however, they are either too captured or too shit scared, such is the reality of politican representation.

donquixotedelamancha · 09/01/2021 10:59

Not often I feel the need to quote a Tory MSP but this is gold:

This caused concern that children in other parts of the UK were being given protections that did not exist in Scotland,” he said. “It now looks like the approach in Scotland will be reviewed, which is welcome news. Irreversible medical interventions should never be carried out on children unless it can be clearly established that they fully understand the long-term consequences.

donquixotedelamancha · 09/01/2021 11:02

It seems to me that despite the highly effective institutional capture there, politicians north of the border are willing to speak up a lot more than in England and Wales.

highame · 09/01/2021 11:11

England and Wales have a media that are being more and more open about this issue. In Scotland the issue appears to be aligned to the SNP and therefore the media have downplayed - disingenuous at the very least. Lots of English politicians very aware and if you watch any of the select committees you will see that the capture is (in the main) hard left Labour, Institutions and other minority parties. The mythical 'transphobia' for every comment is disappearing. The comments in the Newspapers and to broadcasters show that the spell is broken and more are aware and able to speak up.

I have found politicians north of the border more willing to hide than to speak out until very recently. This is not a border issue this is a women's rights issue

ArabellaScott · 09/01/2021 11:11

I think they've kind of been forced to, donquixote.

ArabellaScott · 09/01/2021 11:14

If the opposing parties had any sense, they would use highlight it, however, they are either too captured or too shit scared, such is the reality of politican representation.

The Tories are piping up a wee bit. But Tories are not very popular in Scotland, for the most part. Labour are ... well, Labour are Labour. And then there's the LDs and the Greens. All wall to wall (balls-to-the-wall?) TWAW.

donquixotedelamancha · 09/01/2021 11:25

Arabella, even the Tories in the UK parliament are quiet apart from a small number, there are a couple of Labour MPs but I think if they really went for it they'd get canned. Even at a local level there is little dissent.

In Scotland the SNP have a proper debate going on, despite the leadership saying 'no debate' at least as strongly as Labour. There have been Green and Labour politicians willing to speak up.

What really saddens me is the extent to which the entire Lib Dems are no longer Liberal.

ArabellaScott · 09/01/2021 11:35

Yes, very true. Depressing. They're all scared to even touch the subject. Rosie Duffield being a good example of what happens to anyone who dares to deviate from the standard line by even a toe.

donquixotedelamancha · 09/01/2021 12:02

Yeah, I wonder why Scots ones seem to be markedly better?

sashagabadon · 09/01/2021 12:06

Good news. Scottish children are entitled to the same safeguarding as English and Welsh children.

Cailleach1 · 09/01/2021 12:14

Good news. Still hope they are sued by the children whose lives they damaged because of way they prioritised the politics of lobby organisations to allow charlatan practices in healthcare.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 09/01/2021 13:07

@ArabellaScott

Well quite 🤔

Thanks for the share Igneococcus

So relieved to see this.

MsMarvellous · 09/01/2021 14:02

Green shoots, sunlight, and common sense seem to be popping up all over the place. Slowly we progress. Thanks for sharing! Seeing stories like this make all the shit worthwhile. Now for all the cases this tear to hammer it home further!
