Can't Ofcom see how this plays into the hands of the likes of Russia Today? Who they have rightly sanctioned in the past.
If Ofcom treat saying that sex exists in the same way as they treat propaganda from an authoritarian state, that suits the authoritarian state down to the ground.
They get to position themselves as brave truth-tellers, and Ofcom's false equivalence enables them to further erode the distinction between true and false. Thanks Ofcom!

Well that would be an interesting appointment. I can guess what he would think of Ofcoms censorious approach!

I think Ofcom can be judicially reviewed. We need someone to take this on. I would dig for LGB Alliance to take them on.

There are some big consultations going on at the moment. Free Speech and Hate Crime (UK not Scotland) etc. I think the Government has some real concerns about the capture culture and I'd be interested to see how this develops.

Isn't Melanie due to leave? A lot of the top jobs are now going to people who haven't been Stonewalled. Not sure where I'm going with this but FoI might yield something?

"Ffs, why does she keep going on about “causing offence”? What does that even mean, in practice, and why does she only seem to care about perceived offence in one direction?"

Yes, that looked strange to me also. It's political debate. People will strongly disagree. They attack each other's positions. It generates some heat, and some people are always going to be offended. If you find yourself getting angry being exposed to contrary viewpoints, you do have the option of limiting what you watch.

I think the emphasis should be on open and robust debate of the issues; not being "sensitive" because some people might get offended. Oh you're easily offended? Then stay away from political debate.

"They trotted out Nigel Farage all the time for fucking "balance". But can't have balance for trans issues. Sigh"

To be fair, it turned out that 52% of people agreed with Farage. I can only imagine that a lot of the BBC types think, "But that's why it's so dangerous to give him coverage! The public may agree!".

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

Offence. Hmm. If a GP tells a patient that she is overweight and needs to eat less and take more exercise, the patient may be extremely offended, but it doesn't stop it being true. If a teacher tells a child that a piece of work is substandard, the child may be offended, but it doesn't stop it being true. If a critic writes that an actor's performance was poor, the actor may be offended, but it doesn't stop it being true.
This. I'm bloody sick of being offended equated with actual harm or intent to harm.
