This is a good testimony from a doctor who actually seems to ask questions and be honest with their patients as much as he can.

He has seen a number of transgender patients (seem to be mainly born female). One in particular had ASD and wanted to transition. He asked them what they were looking to achieve physically (no beard, deep voice, taller) and he was able to point out that taller was definitely not achievable and the medication could have further unwanted consequences (acne, ageing tissues resulting in stress incontinence (I’m paraphrasing, can’t look back at the article to check while on my phone) etc) so the patient settled for voice training to achieve the lower voice they wanted.

He seems like a responsible doctor and worries that many aren’t.

The doctor is called Julia, so I assume she’s female.

I hope there are many others making the same worrying observations.

ah yes, my bad. I was on my phone and got mixed up with the Kevinmd title.

I guess the challenge they face in a marketplace health system is that patients will just go to the doctor who is prepared to do what they want and while it is great that some will say no, there will always be someone else with lower ethical standards.

I think they have the same situation with people addicted to painkillers and other health issues.

Four young female patients, female children. The doctor refers to the first as 'he', the second and third as 'they', and the fourth as 'she'.

Why?

Can they not do tallness enhancements for those who were assigned short at birth? I'm sure someone is on the case.

Thelnebriati · 02/01/2021 23:20

They can but are you sure you want the details? They're a bit gruesome and the procedure is not usually available on the NHS because its cosmetic.

Actually rich idiots in the USA are paying endos to give their male children who are slightly below average height human growth hormones. It’s incredibly dubiously ethical and reminds me a lot of why I don’t think endocrinologists should be anywhere near trans identifying kids. Here’s a podcast about it

I am happy that the doc in the OP is at least somewhat ethical. It seems like surgery and endocrinology attract a lot of god complex types.

ArabellaScott · 03/01/2021 09:41

I might have known it!

Most if the surgeons I've seen seem more money oriented, not sure which is more dangerous, tbh.

Thelnebriati · 03/01/2021 14:54

I assumed no one would be stupid enough to misuse growth hormones - I was thinking of the surgery.
