Birthing People

My local hospital trust have just posted this on their social media. (Photo attached)

Disappointed they've used the term 'birthing people' for a process that is exclusively experienced by women. A medical setting seems like a bizarre place to conflate language.

For the purposes of this poster I'd consider myself a woman in labour not a birthing person. Motherhood is not up for grabs.

@DaisiesandButtercups haven't come across that midwife I will try to find her.

I think you are right about it being a small group of particular women with loud voices ....which makes it hard for other women to challenge.

The takeover of maternity and breastfeeding groups by these agendas are astonishing.

No one said that women aren’t people or humans... who said that (post a link).

The Kernow Maternity voices partnership have shared RCHT's post and have responded with this comment when someone has questioned what on earth they mean...

'Not every person who is pregnant or has given birth is a woman'

ermmmmmmm.

I despair.

Totally infiltrated and captured. Sad

I’d love to see their helpful resources. I’d pay good money to see a male body give birth through their... penis? Belly button? Ear?

If you ask how many “birthing people” who contacted the trust and objected to the words women and mother to precipitate this change I wonder if you would get an answer? As far as I know there is no data collected in the UK on the numbers of transmen and non binary people giving birth. Major changes are usually implemented after extensive research identifying the need and an impact assessment. Not apparently in this case.

Hmm. I wonder if there is a way of finding out via FOI?
How would one word it?
Ask how many complaints they have received requesting use of inclusive language?

I've had to supply answers to FOIs before - it's important to ask something for which there is an answer.
