I’ve NC for this. My DD 13 is finding adolescence hard. There have been some issues at school related to social anxiety and focus. Previously she has been confident, an academic high achiever, and this has, in part, gone south.
The school suggested assessment re possible processing issues, and looking at her anxiety.
Now, the problem. She is, to use a phrase I don’t like, but is useful here, ‘non gender conforming’. Short hair, trousers, no interest in make up, appearance, clothes etc. I have looked at some of the experts the school has suggested and seen “gender identity” listed as an area of expertise. Now, I have always been open with her about gender stereotypes, and how girls/women can look however they want/do what they want etc, but I am terrified that if she turns up looking “boyish” as she does, that this may be “explored” as something that is relevant to her. She has a small group of close friends, but already feels isolated from most of her female peers as they are around here, I kid you not, of identical long hair, make up and short skirts appearance.

So, does anyone know how I can find GC practitioners? Many thanks.

Marcus and Sue Evans. If they can’t help they most certainly could signpost therapists who can. What about contacting someone like Heather Brunskell Evans for instance?

You don't say (but I hope you don't mind me asking) - does your daughter get bullied by anyone at the school for any of the above?

Stella O'Malley - based in Ireland but does online.

If you're onTwitter she's @stellaomalley3

Thank you for these suggestions.
@CatsCantCatchCriminalsToo - I really don’t think she is being bullied. She has talked about her classmates and is quite clear that no one is being unpleasant to her - she just feels she has nothing in common with them.

Just watching her as I read this, and she's just specifically said she wouldn't call herself gender critical, and I understand why.

But she certainly would fit your bill - you don't need someone gender-critical - you need someone who isn't blinded by ideology.

www.bayswatersupport.org.uk/ may be of help?

Kirsty Entwhistle is a Clinical Psychologist who used to work at GIDS and was an expert witness on the GC side in the Bell - Tavistock case. She's based in Portugal, but offers online therapy sessions to people in the UK:

Stella O'Malley was involved in the making of the C4 documentary "Trans kids, it's time to talk".
I heard an interview she did one time. She is very much a believer in giving a child time and space.

More generally, you're on relatively safe ground if you can find someone who is a trained Jungian.

My experience has been that psychiatrists tend to be far less rah rah gender than psychologists, but of course, that's not a given.
