Hi All,

I haven't been posting but have been lurking, just wanted to share this article.
The founder of Irish Feminist grassroots group, "The Countess Didn't Fight For This" has had an article published in Spiked Online.

www.spiked-online.com/2020/12/17/why-does-amnesty-want-to-silence-women-like-me/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

I am still reeling from Amnesty signing that letter along with NWCI, but happy to see Irish feminist groups gaining momentum.

Just read it. Gosh that is a pull no punches article. Sets it all out. More sunlight needed in Ireland for sure.

Thank you - that's a great article.

Excellent article, that lays out the bare facts. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing that article.

Just to dampen things a little, I read about the proposed "hate crime" legislation due in the Dàil (Irish Times link).

I noted that the Bill " will list trans people and people with disabilities, alongside already protected groups such as other members of the LGBT community people, refugees and immigrants, Travellers and ethnic and religious groups ".

Now, I have no truck with hatred against any group, and it always says more about the speaker than the target.

But, unfortunately, standing up for women's rights has become wrongly conflated with "trans hatred".

Given our recent history, I have very strong concerns about the implications of the legislation, on discussing women's rights in Ireland.

Annasgirl · 17/12/2020 18:14

Thanks for that @FionaMacCool. Is there any mention of women or are they assuming there can be no hate crime against women (since women are so intrinsically hated in Ireland that it would bankrupt the State to make hating us a crime).

Cailleach1 · 17/12/2020 18:45

Man, and woman are listed. LGBT+ people are listed. Also people with different'Gender Identities' is listed. What the heck is a gender identity? As I said on the other thread, it is a blasphemy law back again. It would mean you cannot speak out in something that is only a belief thing and is damaging and offensive to boot.

"LGBT+ people are listed. Also people with different'Gender Identities' is listed."

Surely they are included within the LGBT+ bracket? Jaysus.

@Oncewasblueandyellowtwo thank you for sharing that - excellent article.

The hate crime bill, which I presume will be the basis of this legislation, lists "sex characteristics" instead of sex.

Pity no outlet in Ireland would print it.

It sickens me the way everyone is so loudly against the past abuses of the Church. Easy kick them when they're down, theres no hardship there. But totally ignore today's injustices. Not ignore - actively assist in them.

Every Frenchman was in the Resistance by 1946.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 19/12/2020 20:28

I don't understand it 7days

These groups are sending packs to schools that say lesbian is a woman who is mainly attracted to women, that children of the same gender identity can share over night accommodation on school trips and they are allowed to do this.

I can understand being cowardly and silent - that's me quite often.
I can't understand the wilful blindness of the cheerleaders though.
