Apologies for the Guardian link but.... they have covered an important issue and have managed to report it accurately, without attempting to erase the fact that this report talks about murders of women:

www.theguardian.com/society/2020/dec/13/we-had-no-privacy-no-respect-demands-for-tighter-rules-on-reporting-of-femicide

Some dreadful stories.

I'd given up on the Guardian, but thats the high standard of reporting I can remember from before they went to pot.

Here's the link to the Level Up standards for reporting a fatal domestic assault;
''Every bad article on domestic violence is a missed opportunity to help prevent further deaths.''

I suspect that the praise should go to the marvellous organisations and individuals involved in the report but well done to the journalist Yvonne Roberts for such a good article. So awful that families are treated in this way - they shouldn't have to campaign for basic respect, accuracy and no intrusion at such an awful time.

I note that they've changed their headline from the one I reflected in the title of this thread to "We had no privacy, no respect’: demands for tighter rules on reporting of fatal domestic abuse".

Jeez why did they change it ?

persistentwoman · 13/12/2020 22:43

I wonder whether the organisations thought it was a bit 'shocking'? Who knows
But I do hope that they succeed as there's been some dreadful media coverage of some of these murders.

Yes we get so used to just another woman murdered by the person who was meant to love her

And the headlines.

Stressed father driven to murder

They depersonalise the women and children who were murdered

I hate the way it is reported.

It’s not domestic violence.

It’s murder
