• The legal status of sex work in the UK
• How to offer appropriate support to student sex workers
• Relevant local and national support services for sex workers in the UK

Join this Culture Shift webinar with University of Leicester to launch their new Student Sex Worker Policy and Toolkit - 15 December www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/launching-university-of-leicesters-student-sex-worker-policy-and-toolkit-tickets-131610353109

Seems to be heavily influenced by ECP - English Collective of Prostitutes and National Ugly Mugs reportandsupport.le.ac.uk/support/student-sex-work

Maybe this is already going on in other universities.

Where to start.

It says that students usually do sex work to pay their fees living costs etc.

Flat statement.

When did this become a norm? Rather than horrifying? A worry. Is there a fund or anything to access for those who need cash and their only option is the sex industry?
Nothing.

They say that most who do it are in various groups that are more likely to be vulnerable.
That's bad right?
Who knows. Just an observation. Doesn't seem to have made them think. Well that's a worry.
Nope.

These are very young people away from home living independently prob for the first time. How are they finding these jobs? Are they being targeted? Are they doing clueless dangerous things to try and get business?
Not mentioned.

Note that on their list is being in porn. Something that they will never get away from. Something that is well known to.. say it's just this and they get there and it's way more than that. But loads of men everyone waiting your signed...
Nah. Just oh they might be in porn.

Main concern is they may feel stigmatised. Unable to say what they do for money.

Oh and some 'fear' of violence. Interesting word. Not at risk of violence. Just a fear. Nothing to say what to do if they are scared.

Must definitely not try to find out if they are being controlled, pimped, coerced.
If they are ok or hate it but can't see a way out.
If they have been subjected to violence or sexual violence.
Etc.
Not the business of the university.

Just help them arrange their work around lectures.

No mention of STDs.

No mention of offering them support if they want to get out- in fact they must NOT do that.

No mention of sharing helplines etc just in case.

No mention of asking about contact/ non contact and any flags being raised about risk.

It's like a job in the pub. Students esp vulnerable ones need jobs!

Oh and...

Why do they do it?

'Some are also driven by the “anticipated pleasure” they think the industry can bring.'

Ok then.

Some are also driven by the “anticipated pleasure” they think the industry can bring.' That is just chilling NiceGerbil

What about the university putting resources into campaigning for a return to grants, more welfare funds, better careers service help in aiding students to get a part time job. The toolkit just normalises paid for rape as a job option. Nudge theory in practice.

"If you are topping up your fees with sex work" - this blithe quote is from publicity for a stall at Brighton Uni Freshers fair and Sussex Uni Wellbeing fair from a few years back when SWOP (Sex workers outreach project) were invited to attend.
