I haven't seen this posted yet. It's a really good statement.

They have a new Twitter account as well.

Great statement.

Thanks. Some really good but chilling points in the blogpost:

"We cannot help but see the shadow of eugenics in such experimental medical practice, purportedly beneficial, that coincidentally prevents disabled individuals from reproducing."

"Rhetorical devices and metaphors like ‘born in the wrong body’ are likely to be taken literally by autistic children, and we condemn in the strongest terms the irresponsible use of such language. Autistic young people deserve facts – not to be told that they can literally change sex, or that to do so will relieve their distress and feelings of social disconnection."

An excellent statement. Such a shame that this hasn't had the same coverage as the QC or Amnesty.

BewaretheIckabog · 06/12/2020 13:53

Excellent statement.

Please share on social media if you can. It would be great to have more exposure for the statement. Smile

Brilliant statement.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the National Autistic Society listened to autistic people?

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the National Autistic Society listened to autistic people?
Those quotes are shocking!

Surely not legal to be promoting this after the Keira Bell judgement.

MichelleofzeResistance · 06/12/2020 17:56

Well said.

YouNoob · 06/12/2020 19:23

They deserve age-appropriate, autism-informed treatment and scientifically accurate information. Rhetorical devices and metaphors like ‘born in the wrong body’ are likely to be taken literally by autistic children, and we condemn in the strongest terms the irresponsible use of such language.

This. Absolutely this.

TheGreatSloth · 06/12/2020 21:57

That's such a well written statement. Has it been shared with the various Children's Commissioners? (I know they've been captured: which is why they need to hear alternative voices.)

NonnyMouse1337 · 06/12/2020 22:06

TheGreatSloth no I don't think so. I will pass on the suggestion as it's a good idea. Smile

Such a moving statement:

Autistic girls being more comfortable in trousers due to sensory issues are not boys. Autistic boys whose special interests are unpopular among their peer group are not girls. Autistic teenagers rejecting social stereotypes and presenting themselves as they prefer are not the opposite sex. Autistic youth who experience distress at physical change in their bodies or at social sex stereotypes are, often, not transgender – they are autistic, displaying typical autistic behaviour. They should be supported to accept their bodies, not irrevocably medically altered.

RozWatching · 06/12/2020 23:33

Great statement.

What on earth are NAS thinking?
