This is horrific www.independent.co.uk/news/world/africa/baby-making-factory-nigeria-ogun-b1766419.html

Its a worldwide problem, but the above article is from today. Reading the Equality Now website it states "In the United Kingdom, more than 8,500 sexual services ads are posted online every month. Traffickers are able to easily post ads for trafficked women and children."

Does anyone know if our government are doing enough/ what they are doing to stop trafficking in the UK?

Caught up. Seems like there've been several points in the last decade when this has been picked up on by journalists. Found a report by the International Crime Database which says the first cases of “baby harvesting” in Nigeria were officially reported in 2006 by UNESCO. It's mind boggling to think of the number of women, girls and babies who have been affected. Just awful. The report highlights the background of extreme poverty in which women and girls, are considered inferior so preyed upon as income generators, as well as being stigmatised for falling pregnant outside of marriage and therefore easy pickings for traffickers. Shocking to discover that many medical practitioners are involved, one high profile arrest documented in the report is of a Doctor. There are recommendations in this report about changes to international law, but can't find evidence that those changes have happened?

Of course Hermione meant it ironically.

Wow, this is one od the most sickening things I have read in quite a while. Those poor, poor women.

Thank you for the replies, I'm going to look into the information you've given Belle and Hecartes. Than you to the earlier poster too who gave information on what the governments were doing (it looked like US, but I'll look through). I was wondering if anyone knew of what charities are best to support that help women and babies in these situations?

This is probably one of the more reliable reports to read. It deals with government responses to trafficking in pretty much every country.

Media only talks about certain societal problems we have, while ignoring other huge issues. Child abuse should get more attention, as well as foster care, which is a mess. Nary a peep on any of this from politicians or media (in the US, at least).

I can believe it and would even suggest it is not uncommon across the world.
