Post Keira Bell I feel we will now see a lot more of these positive stories of trans children. I fear the TRAs will be using their media friends to full effect.

Very strange for such a story to be published today.

Rather concerning that this person felt that they needed and were able to ‘game the system’ to get drugs prescribed. I think this is the only area of medicine where it is borderline self diagnosis (if not fully self diagnosis).

‘Putting on a character’ seems like a very inadvisable way to seek appropriate medical care!

No need to act if you're being genuine.

This is a ploy. ''Look here, it's sooo hard to get them to take you seriously in the first place that you have to put on an act.''

They (the media, not the kids) can piss off with it, frankly. We know it's not true, else Keira wouldn't be in the position she's in today.

Is this supposed to be making them look good? It makes them look worse. How many other kids have been putting on a 'perfect character' act because they think this is what they want/need, and managed to dupe so called professional adults? Hmm

The BBC documentary highlighted a troubled relationship with their father. The father is a farmer who wanted a son to do all the farm work with and was upset his son was effeminate.

But now the farmer has a daughter and they don't have to deal with having a gay femme boy for a son, instead they have a stereotypical girly girl who is straight.

Obviously glad that this person is happy. And hope that they continue to be happy after their genital surgery etc.

The Trans activists are tweeting a Dutch study. “The Amsterdam Cohort of Gender Dysphoria Study 1972-2015): Trends in Prevalance Treatment, and Regrets.”

They didn’t read it. (It’s available in English).
In the Netherlands there is a proper diagnosis protocol (gate keeping) and the authors of the study say a 36% loss to follow up.

Where they could follow up, so far low rates of regret, but average time to regret was 130 months so too soon to tell...

It's chldren living up to their parents and societies expectations. But children grow up.
When they're adults and their brains have fully formed (approximately around 25 years old) they will see the harm that's been done to them. How are we going to help them come to terms with the fall out from all these unnecessary drugs and surgery.

Is that the documentary which was on 2 or 3 years ago or a new one? In the one I saw, the father was barely shown at all. There were a few shots of him in the background looking quite worried, while the mother seemed to enthusiastically embrace the idea of a trans child. (I may not have watched the whole programme, though)

I remember this documentary. I wish Lily well, but I do think it is too early for Lily to consider transition to be a success, especially as vaginoplasty is planned in the near future.

From what I have read about risk of infection of a "neo-vagina", and the need to keep it dilated to prevent closure, it doesn't sound much fun to have to deal with for the rest of one's life.

MightyMike · 03/12/2020 22:52

OldCrone.
There's an update on Lily's story to be broadcast soon. Here is a promo clip of the new update where her father says they had a difficult relationship when Lily was a boy.

Even those with successful medical and surgical transitions have spoken out about their unhappiness in the long term. Remember the rather sweet and lovely Leanne Mills who posted here for a while? Leanne is about as close as we’re likely to find in terms of someone in the U.K. who was already on the path to transition in the teen years (and even appeared on TV show about transition at the age of 19) and is now looking back with many years of experience.

(The above documentary features a young Stephen Whittle too)

I do worry that the current crop of young MtF transitioners are unable to see beyond the fun bit of late adolescence and early adulthood. It all seems very hot pants and nightclubs and beauty contests, which is fine when you are young but rapidly falls away when your peer group starts settling down and having babies.

The young FtMs seem to have strong relationships with each other and those who are same sex attracted can turn to the lesbian community for companionship (who are largely community minded enough not to reject them on transition!) and some of the transmen will have their own babies to raise, depending on their medical interventions...

but who will a young MtF transitioner like say, Jazz Jennings have, beyond Mom Jennings?

I feel Leanne’s sadness and isolation pour off the screen, yet young Leanne looked so hopeful and vibrant.

20 is no age, is it? Hope Lily is still happy with Lily’s teenage choices at 40, 60 & 80.

Hope you are OK out there, Leanne Flowers
