An excellent link. Thanks for posting.

It starts to make sense when all laid out like that!

lionheart · 01/12/2020 10:23

It's a lot, isn't it?

Brilliant thank you. She's worth following on twitter.

Adding this very recent post by Glinner re childline:

MammothMashup · 01/12/2020 12:27

He mentions a lot of Tish's work but also comments on the public forum.,

persistentwoman · 01/12/2020 12:29

I've only had a quick scan of this but isn't it depressing. The primary child safeguarding charity captured in this way.

MammothMashup · 01/12/2020 12:30

The ones that children are told by schools and charities and tv and celebs to contact if they're struggling.

Yep.

Thelnebriati · 01/12/2020 12:37

One major concern I have about this is that the NSPCC has statutory powers. So who regulates them?

persistentwoman · 01/12/2020 12:43

I presume it's the government TheInebriati I've worked with them when they came in to take over a failing child protection service in a local authority and have often worked alongside them in safeguarding cases.

persistentwoman · 01/12/2020 12:44

Presumably they're Ofsteded like LAs are?

Thelnebriati · 01/12/2020 12:45

A quick google leaves me none the wiser.

MammothMashup · 01/12/2020 12:48

@Thelnebriati

One major concern I have about this is that the NSPCC has statutory powers. So who regulates them?

Yes I asked my friend who is a social worker. She pointed out they have the whistle blowing service but I said, even in themselves?

It must be government.

I've lost faith in a lot of structures that claim to safeguarding everything in the last year or two.

Thelnebriati · 01/12/2020 12:53

If its govt then thats concerning. Govt has repeatedly stirred things up and then left us all to fundraise to have the equality and child protection laws upheld.

MammothMashup · 01/12/2020 13:03

I think it depends who. I'm not sure there's a specific dept? Contacting certain people we currently know are hot on this particular area of safeguarding in the house of lords for example.

lakesideadvent · 01/12/2020 13:16

There is a huge disconnect in the NSPCC between the front line social workers and other sections of the organization.

There are several different types of work, the front line work with dc and families is only a small part of it.

The campaigning work is seen as much more important internally because it reaches more families and works out of a head office with little interaction with the front line staff doing quite specialized social work.

So the direction of the organization and tweets come from a very different group of people to those who have worked often for a long time in specialized CP roles.

That "guide to porn" video sounds jaw-dropping.
