They highlight the particular importance of involving women in the decision-making.

The document says "messaging should be supportive of women adapting traditions and encouraging those around them to share the burden and to be supportive of any alterations to adapt for Covid-19 restrictions".

WTF is it just me? Have I gone mad? Slipped into a parallel universe?

Absolutely shocking quote!

Wouldn’t it be lovely if the BBC was advocating involving women in decision-making, about stuff that wasn’t just taking on the responsibility for keeping everyone else COVID safe, fed and entertained at Christmas?

I saw this too and wondered if they had maybe picked up on some stuff about women being better at doing covid stuff through some of their surveys perhaps. They have reported about women being better at following rules than men I think. So maybe that is the underlying aim..

Could it not mean adapting the tradition of leaving everything to the women, and instead encouraging others to ‘share the burden’?

E.g. this year she says “it’s your turn to do the washing up, Fred.”

@GurpsAgain it does, but wouldn’t it be better if Fred said “I’ll do the washing up love, you always do it”. Why should the burden be on her to ask?

The burden isn’t shared until 50% of the conversations are ‘James can you do the pots and I’ll do the carrots’ said Fred.

On all levels, it's an utterly bizarre article.
