Bit of good news among the shitshow.

The Scottish Parliament voted unanimously to fund public bodies to make free sanpro available.

Nicola Sturgeon tweeted that it was "an important policy for women and girls", like there was something special about women and girls that meant they in particular need period products. The awful T**F that she is.

Great news! And so far I could only see one 'it's not just women and girls who have periods you know' tweet too!

aliasundercover · 24/11/2020 19:52

Such good news. Well done Scotland, let's hope others follow.

Lennon [Scottish Labour’s health spokeswoman] said: “This will make a massive difference to the lives of women and girls and everyone who menstruates.

That'll be women and girls then. They can't help themselves can they?

EndoplasmicReticulum · 24/11/2020 19:54

I don't mind "women and girls and everyone who menstruates". Better than getting rid of women and girls altogether.

theotherfossilsister · 24/11/2020 19:58

they are already giving them out in libraries in Edinburgh.

WouldstrokeTomHardy · 24/11/2020 20:37

I notice the ITV news said tonight 'free sanpro for people in Scotland'

Whatwouldscullydo · 24/11/2020 20:48

Excellent news...

Which toilet are they gonna put them in?Wink

FabulousGuineaPig · 24/11/2020 21:12

Bizarre. Of all the things to provide free. Sanpro per month costs less tha a single bus fare. What next ? Free toilet paper? State sanitary prodicts which are guaranteed to be rubbish.

Whatwouldscullydo · 24/11/2020 21:18

I'm sure even rubbish pads are better than no pads for those who find themselves caught short, or whos parents/carers cant afford or won't prioritise them.

Then Plan not to be caught short. Take personal responsibility

The average 12 year old doesn't have a job to provide money to buy sanpro. Hth

What a weird comment. Toilet paper is already free in public places. When have you ever gone into the toilet in a cafe, library, leisure centre etc. and had to pay for toilet paper? It is already the case here (in Scotland) that there is a basket of free sanitary products in most of these places. Just because it will be available for free doesn't mean you have to use it if you don't want to. I know condoms are available for free for example, but I have always bought mine. That doesn't mean I don't think they should be available free for those who need them.
Whatwouldscullydo · 24/11/2020 21:44

Plenty of parents with money and the ability, still find themselves caught by surprise when it comes to their daughters . So how's a 12 year old meant to organise herself with no money, and not necessarily access to a shop

justgeton · 24/11/2020 22:27

I absolutely think should be available free to those who need them to be.

Emphasis on need.

Not to those quite able to pay for and provide their own.

I take it you've never been caught short or had any menstrual disorders at all?
justgeton · 24/11/2020 22:36

Completely agree.
Whatwouldscullydo · 24/11/2020 22:38

Are you forgetting kids can start as young as 9 and have no means to "prepare"..

justgeton · 24/11/2020 22:39

This isn't about being caught out. There's always been someone to ask..

It's about those who just cannot access protection because they're homeless, their parents are neglecting their needs, whatever.

I just cannot see why free for everyone is needed

ClaireP20 · 24/11/2020 22:46

My parents had money but never bought them for me. My mum said i could use her 'tenna ladies'. Massive pads, more for weeing yourself. She said tampons were bad because they went inside me (a virginity thing), I remember going dancing in my leotard, wearing my mum's massive tenna lady. Everyone laughed. I was only 14, but from then on I wore loo paper shoved inside.

If it were only available for 'those in need/couldn't afford it' it wouldn't have been given to me.

Whatwouldscullydo · 24/11/2020 22:51

How would they know anyway? Scan your pay check over the dispenser?

Everyone fills out a household income form to submit with the new starter paperwork?

Wristbands?

Be easier to just shove them in a basket on the girls toilets wouldn't it?

justgeton · 24/11/2020 22:53

ClaireP20

I'm so sorry, that must've been awful. My second post above covers it

HollowTalk · 24/11/2020 22:53

It pisses me off though that it's given such low priority in some families, though. There was a girl on the news saying she lived with her dad and he didn't provide her with anything. I was so angry on her behalf.

I'd be glad if it was free in all school toilets, though.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 24/11/2020 22:57

Thinking about it, it’s a crying disgrace that they weren’t provided free at school.

justgeton · 24/11/2020 23:01

But this isn't just about free in school

SingingToMySeeds · 24/11/2020 23:24

I think this is excellent news and am honestly baffled that anyone has a problem with a basket of free sanitary products in public toilets. As I said - this is already the case in many places in Scotland! I have never used them because I prefer my own and that is probably the case for most women and girls. But I am so glad they are there for those who need them. How else do propose distributing them to those who need them?!

iklboogeymum · 24/11/2020 23:27

Hilarious. Have you thought of a career in stand up?
