Text of tweet:

Anyone with a uterus may find themselves seeking the morning after pill at some point in their life. We see you and we support you!

#TransAwarenessWeek

ellaOne film-coated tablet. Ulipristal acetate.
Emergency contraception. Read label.

I wasn't particularly bothered by that, but the final blow is the accompanying animation of a wibbling flag with the words "the morning after pill isn't just for cis-women".

Fuck off, EllaOne. You don't get to categorise me as a cis-woman.

I am who I say I am, to quote Amnesty International, and I pick woman.

I’ve just gone on the thread and told them to fuck off. Too rude? 🤔

DrDavidBanner · 21/11/2020 18:27

No @ButterflyBitch I think thats just the right tone Grin

DrDavidBanner · 21/11/2020 18:31

Thanks @PotholeParadies in that case, yes you're right. It doesn't make much sense. The one time I had to take MAP I was shitting myself although if I remember rightly I was treated like a silly reckless slapper anyway so good to know the dismissive attitude to women hasn't changed. Hmm

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/11/2020 18:46

“the morning after pill isn't just for cis-women".

The wording is rather bizarre. It slightly implies that "trans women" are FTM. Unless they're suggesting it might have a use for MTF trans people?

It's strange that they didn't put "isn't just for women" equally wrong, but perfectly in keeping with their gender identity ideology. Putting "cis" in there suggests it's relevant to "trans women". Or it's deliberately and unnecessarily reinforcing that women who don't identify as male or non binary are forced to call themselves "cis".

Escapeplanning · 21/11/2020 19:00

Maybe they mean you can give it to the cat?

PotholeParadies · 21/11/2020 19:05

I'm finding all of this more and more sinister.

These organisations can't be unaware that so many of us hate being referred to in ways like this, and yet they continue. Which means it no longer feels like a company cluelessly trying to be inclusive of a minority, but a deliberate, knowing decision they've taken.

You can get extra-uterine pregnancies. (See grey’s anatomy, the new season covers it!). And there is at least one case where a post-hysterectomy woman has had a live baby, although most extra-uterine pregnancies are terminated due to the risks, or impossibility of survival.

Anyway- what about women who’ve had a hysterectomy, or otherwise have no uterus but functioning ovaries?

(Yes i know I’m reaching, but possibly as unlikely as a transman needing emergency contraception)

ImaSababa · 21/11/2020 19:24

It's interesting that so many brands targeting women have leapt onto the Trans Awareness Week bandwagon. Why?

Incidentally, is anyone NOT aware of trans by now? I don't think I've ever been more aware of any minority ever...

Escapeplanning · 21/11/2020 19:25

Of course it is Pothole. It's okay to be nasty to *erfs if you are inclusive.

Newuser991 · 21/11/2020 19:26

@PotholeParadies

Being erased from items and products that we pay for.

How many women are there who want to be called someone with a uterus? There are a good amount of women who will accept it in order to be kind and to be inclusive to other people. But how many are there who would actually like being referred to that way, personally?

It's never "women and other people with a uterus" is it?

Shockingly the younger generation are all over it.

I know a 23 yo American woman who refers to herself as a menstruator/ someone who menstruates

Newuser991 · 21/11/2020 19:27

I'm already specifically avoiding all sanitary products who use these terms.

This tiny minority will never need to buy these products. Hope they realise that

HecatesCats · 21/11/2020 19:59

I honestly don't understand how this approach to marketing works. When they sit down and ask themselves, who is the audience, how do we reach them, what message do we want to convey? Are they seriously looking at data that shows large numbers of trans people using their product, because that's the only way this makes sense. Otherwise they're making a deliberate decision to rename their audience (insulting large numbers along the way no doubt) with no external pressure to do so other than from Trans lobby groups.

Newuser991 · 22/11/2020 11:27

I agree. They want to sell their product. They know who needs it and will buy it.

They choose to be woke and be inclusive of those who will never need to use it so as not to offend those who will never buy it and belittle those who will.

You couldn't make this up.

SusannaSpider · 22/11/2020 23:57

They want to sell their product. They know who needs it and will buy it.
It doesn't really matter to them though does it? Asfaik, the are two types of MAP, I've never been offered a choice and it's not as if you'd run the risk of turning it down on principle. Basically they have a captive audience, so they can be as woke as they like.
