I don't see a thread on this yet so forgive the repeat if this is already being discussed.

"This week The Fawcett Society announcedd_ that we are looking at how we can continue to lead the fight for equality into the future and how we can adapt to the changes around us. We have seen a positive reception to the news that we are undergoing talks with the Young Women's Trust about a potential merger and we look forward to keeping you updated on the progress."

Sometimes it seems that what is said to be the women's sector is in fact just an employment project for a few women who circulate the CE jobs between themselves.

I suspect this is about creating a "bigger" sort of group with higher salaries, than having 2 smaller groups where salaries are lower.

The Woman's Trust has been a bit more feminist that Fawcett, so I dont think it would be good for their work.

But no doubt Fawcett is hoping to appear still relevant to young women.

(Does anyone remember the thread where we were discussing recent vacancies of CE in women's groups. Just cant find it. Had some good info.)

Not sure there's any chance of real women centred organisation emerging.
Unless gender identity refers to transmen.

Young Women's Trust is a feminist organisation working to achieve economic justice for young women.

We stand shoulder to shoulder with all women, no matter their race, ethnicity, religion, socio-economic background, disability, neurodiversity, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
We cheer our common ground and shared experiences. And we embrace and celebrate our differences.
We always seek to succeed by the power of our campaigns and our arguments, never by silencing those who have different opinions.
We make room for all voices and allow a safe space for everyone who wishes to debate in good faith. (Bet this doesn't include GC views)
We recognise that women's rights are human rights and that no-one's rights can come at the expense of others'.
We share our experiences both to demonstrate difficulties and to show our resourcefulness and courage.

This would be the Young Women's Trust who used to have Sophie Walker as CEO until she was 'exposed' for wrong think (see tweet ) and then moved on soon after ( follow up tweet ).

Maybe Fawcett have failed to purge enough witches & need a few more stringent libfems willing to go the extra mile and report on the few remaining wrong thinkers to get shot of those pesky older women that just won't STFU.

From what I've seen of Sophie Walker I think she's genuinely committed to women's rights and not to whatever mantras will earn work points (and presumably funding), I suspect that's why she's moved in from WEP & YWT. I actually think she might be one of the good feminists, stymied by her peer group and fear. Time will tell.

Moved 'on' not 'in'

Fawcett must have a declining membership base.

Women have walked away from these wishy-washy organisations. There's no point to them.

I need to learn more about YMT, I'm so suspicious and I don't like it, I'm not proud of it, but needs must!

I'd support it if it genuinely was about women but a possible merger indicates that there are financial difficulties behind the scenes. I wonder what brought that on?

“all women, no matter their...gender identity...”

On the face of it, this should mean all women, whether or not they identify as transmen, non-binary or whatever. In other words it suggests a biological definition of the word woman, that is unaltered even if the woman in question doesn’t want to be referred to as such. If this is what they meant to say, then that is perfect.

I said up thread that it was probably a small circle of female CEs swapping jobs and securing their salaries.

But on a slightly less flippant note I am wondering because therehave been so many recent CE posts in women's organisastion (and I still cant find the thread) that in fact not many women are coming forward. I doubt this is because of salary, some of them are very well paid. But maybe it is because so many groups, whethr because of funders or trustees have gone down the rainbow past and when faced with this women think I am not going to play the TWAW game to keep a so called women's group going.

Sophie Walker had only been at YWT for about a year and has joined a "feminist" law firm.

This is also a new sort of trend. That feminist advances aren't coming from women's groups and campaigns but by sucessful court cases that set precedents (spelling?) for establishing women's rights in various areas.
