First loss in 90 years (although driving so could be out a bit). Clothing doing badly.

Worth another push to encourage them to go back to single sex changing rooms.

OP posts:
IAmNotAGirl · 04/11/2020 08:24

Did anyone ever get a reply from them? I didn't. I'll try again but despite them being my first port of call for clothes and buying a lot of food I've found it easier than I expected to switch away.

FionaMacCool · 04/11/2020 08:28

I removed myself from their mailing lists; and havent shopped there for about 12 months. almost broke when searching for school socks.

This is purely on the basis of the comments under the women's underwear section of their website.

It's there in plain sight, and I wont support it actively or tacitly.

IwishNothingButTheBestForYou2 · 04/11/2020 08:36

Didn't the baroness send M&S a letter about changing rooms?

HotGlueGun · 04/11/2020 08:41

@FionaMacCool what comments? I've just had a quick look but couldn't see what you were referring to

CausingChaos2 · 04/11/2020 08:52

Perverted comments from men in the underwear reviews describing how ‘supportive’ the knickers are.

PostItJoyWeek · 04/11/2020 09:02

I still try to buy from them because I like their products, especially underwear and school clothes. I am not one for boycotts.

Their inability to stock their popular products in popular sizes is what blocks me from buying. The website annoys me. Good on imagery, shite on functionality.

The only things I ever buy from M&S are school uniform and underwear and sleepwear. And every time I go into our local M&S store for these things it pisses me right off. They never have a range of sizes. Always sold out on basics like school shirts (my son will only wear the M&S collar shirts, no other shirt will do). Website too. Seriously, they need to get their stock levels sorted.

Galvantula · 04/11/2020 09:40

@FionaMacCool it seems they may have cleaned up the reviews.

I haven't been on for a while either, but just went and selected a few pants at random and there were no obvious "man tucking" ones there. Previously it was on almost every one, except for boring practical cotton ones of course 🤔

MichelleofzeResistance · 04/11/2020 10:13

After I read those reviews and learned about what some of their penis people customers like to do with clothes and on the floor of the mixed sex changing rooms, and that M&S enthusiastically supported this as a Jolly Good Thing, I wouldn't buy anything from there or even go in there without putting on a hazmat suit first. Never mind have any good associations with their brand. Have some lovely cashmere ladies! Freshly wanked on this morning!

Shudder.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 04/11/2020 10:14

Did M&S not get cancelled for sticking Harry Potter merchandise? Or is it just small companies that get bullied

(And judging by the availability of items, the clothing range is very popular)

Tangas and suspenders are still popular with the likes of Damien, girlyboy and Doug

FionaMacCool · 04/11/2020 11:36

I'm not big on boycotts either, but M&S wont sink because I dont buy their school socks .
Fortunately Dunnes Stores have upped their game and their socks are just fine for school.

What may sink them is the attitude.
The fetishistic reviews were left up in spite of their attention being brought to the issue.
Their attitude to single sex changing rooms in a world of up skirting and cameras being left in dressing areas.

As the great saying goes "when someone shows you who they are, believe them".
So I do.

M&S dont have a nice attitude to women.
So I dont have a nice attitude to them.

Sexnotgender · 04/11/2020 11:40

I’ve been boycotting them for a year now. Won’t spend a penny with them. Soon to be mum of 3, higher earner. I should be squarely their target market. They can fuck right off.

Bidl · 04/11/2020 11:41

Well since changing rooms aren’t open at the moment, why would that make a difference!

PostItJoyWeek · 04/11/2020 12:50

@Bidl

Well since changing rooms aren’t open at the moment, why would that make a difference!
Their behaviour over changing rooms has tarnished their brand.

We can't rely on M&S to be sensible any more.

If M&S is not a solid practical workhorse of a brand shunning fads to give people what they need then what is it?

Nobody wants expensive dull wokery.

Let's not forget this bit of overt sexism

I've not cancelled my sparks card just in case anyone is running any reports to see customer spend has changed. Obviously individuals won't make a difference but enough will show them there's been an abrupt change. They'd probably put it down to covid though.

Let's face it they don't care what their female customers think, they are another organisation that patronisingly thinks they know better what we should think

Yes, yes, yes to all of the above. Plus their utterly dismissive, patronising and just downright rude email responses to women's concerns, which boiled down to "you're just a nasty bigoted pointless woman so we're not going to respond to you anymore".

As sad as I am for the (mostly female) workforce who will be hit by store closures, I have no sympathy for M&S.

SirSamuelVimes · 04/11/2020 13:40

Bold fail, sorry. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Stealhsquirrelnutkin · 04/11/2020 17:44

I agree, I used to be a regular customer, but haven't bought anything from them since they decided it was fine to allow perverts into the women's changing rooms. Same thing with John Lewis. I was surprised by how many different sources of food and clothing were available once I'd cut out the misogynists.

noraclavicle · 04/11/2020 18:04

I’d say this:

  1. The changing rooms are closed altogether right now, so the stuff ‘people’ like to get up to in them isn’t an immediate issue
  1. We’re on the verge of Lockdown 2 - the checkout lady I spoke to today is terrified for her job, as are thousands of her colleagues
  1. Number 2 overrides everything else right now in the real world, so I’m going to try & support the low-paid women like her and her colleagues by continuing to shop there & hold the other fight for another day.

You lot are obviously in charge of your own actions, but I’m not inclined right now to cut off noses to spite faces, as it were.

And I would say @noraclavicle that if M&S had any respect for their core customer base, perhaps their employees wouldn't be so worried about losing their jobs.

Brand loyalty is such a valuable thing. Brands like M&S know this - it's what their advertising is based on. Unfortunately they seem unable to translate that into customer care which seems to be unhappily driven by social media. It's a mistake to take brand loyalty for granted as they are now finding out to their cost. But that isn't the fault of the women who are actively boycotting them, it's the fault of M&S.

SeaRabbit · 04/11/2020 19:45

My boycott continues. I popped into our local one on Saturday for the first time in months, just to get an experience of a shop before lockdown (it's a small town, and that's as good as it gets here). They did actually have some nice things: they've upped their game, definitely, but I deliberately didn't buy anything.

Even if I'd needed something I wouldn't have bought it from M&S, after the way they responded to us last year.
