They are working with over 850 organisations, Stonewall says:

The amount that each organisation pays depends on its size but starts at £2,500 plus VAT and is estimated to cost the taxpayer at least £600,000

In addition to this, in the year ending 30/9/19 (the last year for which accounts are available), Stonewall received grants from the DfE (£299k), FCO (£145k), Scottish Government (£100k), Welsh Government (£157k) and NHS Scotland (£46k). A total of over £700,000.

I really hope that all those people in public services, and private ones will reconsider their ill advised position in relation to Stonewall, and stop inviting them to do presentations and training in the workplace that is at best unhelpful and costly and at worse , downright dangerous.

Jo March in the comments:

"hostel for homeless women had a male who identified as a woman had been parading around naked sexually harassing women there".

and

"This hostel is a Stonewall Champion, and part of its justification was 'diversity and inclusion', and it pointed out what a great employer of LGBT people it was."

From the linked Mail article:

.. charities are now allowing men who live as women to visit their shelters.

I think that's misleading as well as meaningless. I think it should've said:

charities are now allowing men who wear what some would describe as "women's clothing" to visit their shelters.
@sultanasofa kudos to you for wanting to challenge your employer. have there been any changes affecting the staff like gender neutral toilets? if it's a public body, then Ann Sinnott's case is important too...
Not a public body and my situation is better than some of the other workplaces on here. They've re-labelled the disabled toilets as 'any gender' as I recall ( it's been months since I went to the office...). Otherwise there are toilets for men and toilets for women.

However there are objectives about maintaining their ranking in the Stonewall index, and working with Stonewall to identify training gaps/ needs etc etc.

Don't want to go into too many details as I suspect my card is already marked, due to asking questions about 'why are you asking for my gender not my sex?' etc.

I wonder if there's some help on what to do when workplaces replace sex with gender? from one of the charities? WPUK have 'model letters' to send, when organisations change the terms of the EA. will dig on their site...

NeurotrashWarrior · 02/11/2020 13:28

@Cocothefirst

Charities are also signing up to this shit in their droves.

So are schools....

PearPickingPorky · 02/11/2020 14:49

@littlbrowndog

That is true kit.

We are diverse. Look we are stonewall champions. Which makes us top champions of diversity

Go us

Much easier to pay £2,500 for a rainbow Stonewall badge than to make structural changes to your organisation which enables actual diversity of your employees, ie, female people.
PearPickingPorky · 02/11/2020 15:00

This is an excellent, well-researched and quite fascinating article by Helen Lewis which (although she doesn't explicitly mention it) explains why so many companies pay to be Stonewall Champions.

Let's not forget that the soon to be departing Equalities and Human Rights Commission Chair, David Isaacs, is the ex Stonewall chair. How did that association result in a "neutral" position being held by the EHRC during his tenure. Not at all, I would say.

This man is returning to his very senior role in his law firm, Pinsent Masons, oft lauded by Stonewall as a model employer. Have a look at the partners in that firm in their UK offices. Not many women. Hardly anyone who isn't white. Isaacs parting shot was to say that employers don't do enough to encourage racial diversity. On the evidence of his firm's website, he's done bugger all to encourage women and minorities in his own place of work, where his influence is great.

Yet he and his firm gets to polish their halo because Stonewall gives them an award, and nobody looks closely at the reality of their employment record vis a vis other disadvantaged groups. Their employment of a group of privileged white men who just happen to be gay is lauded as "diversity". These Stonewall awards are like a deflector shield against criticism.

What always surprises me is that you never actually have to look all that far.

It is all put out on the internet.

Aesopfable · 02/11/2020 17:11

He would never have left his role at Pinsent Masons: these chairs are not full time positions. He is probably looking for his next chair role already if he hasn’t already lined one up.

PearPickingPorky · 02/11/2020 17:18

David Isaacs also had the cheek to say on twitter, after he left his EHRC post where they spent his entire tenure undermining them, that he is in favour of single-sex* spaces.

*Of course, he could mean self-decided sex.

Thanks for sharing this OP, a really clear article. It's good to see this in the mainstream media and the comments are heartening. Well over 500 comments and so far none seem to have been deleted.

Before becoming more aware of the issues around gender ideology, like many others I simply believed that Stonewall stood as a proponent of equality and LGBT rights. I've always supported LGB rights and honestly hadn't given too much thought to the addition of the T. Once you read into it though and discover just how far they have strayed from where they were and what they represented 5 years ago it's shocking to see how little they now care about LGB and how willing they are to trample on women's rights. That's why articles like this are so important in raising wider awareness and allowing more people to question Stonewall's true intentions.
