'Menstruators' who take the contraceptive pill

CookieMumsters · 26/10/2020 11:50

Am I missing something?
I'm an adult human female, who takes the contraceptive pill. Therefore, I dont menstruate but I do have withdrawal bleeds every 28 days, when I have a break from taking the pill. In this world of madness, which sanitary products are for me?

I think in your circumstances you can feel free to identify as a 'bleeder' or a 'person who bleeds'.

Now you may think that every human alive bleeds, for example if they accidentally cut themselves or get a nosebleed and that there might be something specific about the nature of the blood that you might use a tampon or sanitary pad to deal with, but that's disgusting ewww.

NecessaryScene1 · 26/10/2020 12:00

Another similarly dumb one via Maya's Twitter, talking about "FemCare":

This one has been menstruator-ing for ages. Thing is, it doesn't work. They're using it as a universal substitute for woman with... comic results. Except they're not comic at all.

"3. Miscarriage or premature birth
Another complication that may occur due to Polycystic ovary syndrome is a menstruator having a miscarriage or premature birth of the baby. #freetheflow #menstruation #letstalkPCOS #FemCaretopicofthemonth"

Not an expert, but if a menstruator is having a miscarriage, it suggests maybe a potential problem could have been identified sooner?

lunar1 · 26/10/2020 12:05

My son cut his knee earlier, I ran to the bathroom and got out my supplies for a person who bleeds, couldn't figure out what to do with the tampax, they need better instructions 🤷🏻‍♀️

Melroses · 26/10/2020 12:10

Also, post gynae surgery.

If there is anything I have learned about gynae, it is that whatever is being done, you need sanitary towels.

WeeBisom · 26/10/2020 12:24

“Bleeder” and “menstruator” is also not species specific so could be referring to monkeys, dogs ...

I have the contraceptive implant so don’t menstruate at all. But when it is close to expiry I get break out bleeds sometimes. Am I a menstruator ?

JellySlice · 26/10/2020 12:44

A person having a miscarriage or giving birth prematurely is not menstruating, so it is incorrect to call them a menstruator. Shame there isn't an accurate, respectful, universally understood word we could use to describe these people.

StealthPolarBear · 26/10/2020 12:47

Well that's the situation we find ourselves in. We just need a word akin to 'men', which for anyone who didn't know is commonly used for those adult who have, could have or used to ejaculate. But obviously having such a word wouldn't be inclusive.

Bloody hell. I commented on the other thread re the inappropriateness and unkindness of referring to women with PCOS as 'menstruators' (my main symptom and the only one which really mattered to me was not menstruating) , but this one caps it. Referring to a woman having a miscarriage or premature stillbirth as a 'menstruator' is beyond all bounds of compassion and sense.

Link to the other thread, it's not obvious from the title what it's about

Can anyone find a word left over that people born male don't want that we might use to identify ourselves for clarity? Anyone tried under the table or behind the sofa? Sometimes a few scraps can be found there.

StealthPolarBear · 26/10/2020 13:44

Ummmmm
Ermmmmm
I'm thinking really hard but nothing is coming to mind

ErrolTheDragon · 26/10/2020 13:54

The really stupid thing is that in that femcare tweet they could have just said:

Another complication that may occur due to Polycystic ovary syndrome is having a miscarriage or premature birth of the baby. #freetheflow #menstruation #letstalkPCOS #FemCaretopicofthemonth"

There was simply no need for the crassly inappropriate use of the word 'menstruator' there.

I'm not on twitter but if anyone who is wants to quote a woman who has PCOS but is no longer even an occasional menstruator, feel free.

NotTerfNorCis · 26/10/2020 13:57

TRAs: GC feminists are reducing people to their anatomy!

Also TRAs: 'Menstruators.' 'Uterus havers.' 'Bleeders.' 'Cervix owners.'

I swept up a load of dust and c**p from my workshop today - I’ll go and have a dig around in that and get back to you.

At what point will the people supporting their own erasure wake up and smell the coffee??

NChat · 26/10/2020 14:09

NotTerfNorCis

Clearly, women aren't included in "people". I'm sure you have been involved in this long enough to have educated yourself on this point.

As for a word. Maybe we should mount an attack on the formerly gender neutral "man" and those formerly known as man can be werman.
This seems about as resonable as the complete removal of the word Woman from women's issues.

RebeccaCloud9 · 26/10/2020 14:18

Oh this has just reminded me about seeing a women's gynaecological health doctor on tiktok being advised (and joining in on the madness!!) not to use the word WOMAN when talking about GYNAECOLOGICAL HEALTH!!!!

Sorry for all the capitals and exclamations, but seriously??!!

MichelleofzeResistance · 26/10/2020 14:36

Clearly, women aren't included in "people".

Oh it's really worth watching for and collecting examples of this. I've started to notice it now and it stands out how often the word 'people' or 'everyone' is used meaning 'males'. Sometimes stretching to 'and those females who have identified into more socially acceptable groups'.

Possibly this is a word left under the sofa from a previous age that has been used in the past for this kind of thing: 'the untouchables'.

highame · 26/10/2020 14:42

Do you know what, this exclusions of the word woman and the introduction of anything but a woman, IS making me feel like an UNTOUCHABLE. At least I can now empathise completely with people who are in this category.

Escapeplanning · 26/10/2020 14:43

This is just one of the mind blowing contradictions.

It's going to collapse in on itself as it's unworkable.

gardenbird48 · 26/10/2020 14:57

I noticed on radio 1 the other day the presenters were getting coy about ‘a snow thing, no a snow person! Don’t want to offend anybody....’. They were talking about Olaf from Frozen.

I'm not on twitter but if anyone who is wants to quote a woman who has PCOS but is no longer even an occasional menstruator, feel free.

Most of these issues could be avoided by using there words “you/your” as though speaking directly to the customer.

“When you are on your period you want to feel comfortable and know there won’t be leaks.”

“When you give birth...”

“When you have cervical smear test...”

Then anyone going “hang on! I don’t have/do/need that thing, you’re not including/you’re excluding me!” can be ignored for being a raging tit and anyone who is not comfortable being described as a woman is catered to with tact.

It would still avoid the word woman but wouldn’t seem so “hey look at us, we can shit all over women and transmen to look good on social media!”

NewlyGranny · 26/10/2020 15:34

Michelle, even if you find something a bit battered and ancient down the back of the sofa with last Christmas's Quality Street wrappers, it will be snatched from our hands the moment we use it and someone notices. Might as well leave it there. 🤷🏼‍♀️

MichelleofzeResistance · 26/10/2020 15:45

wouldn’t seem so “hey look at us

But that's the nail on the head.

Just adding additional language isn't enough. The virtue signal requires that you make it very clear indeed that females are untouchables and you have virtuously erased them from anything to do with them, because yuck. Aren't you a very good little whatever. Here's your rainbow cookie.

MichelleofzeResistance · 26/10/2020 15:47

And this goes too with the clear separation between:

Females being good about and embracing their erasure, who get the luxury of being ignored, and are the unseen

Females who are bigoted and unkind and hateful enough to notice, mention it and complain about the inequality, and are the untouchables. Openly derided and witchburned in the currently fashionable way.

Nomnomarrgh · 26/10/2020 23:40

How does one free the flow? Am I supposed to bleed freely everywhere? Is this what the Welsh Government/Tesco were pushing for? I’m amazed as I thought all females were filthy for having the nerve to bleed.
