Women subject to "invasive examinations" pre-flight

I just cannot begin to understand how this has happened.

Women subjected to invasive examinations pre-boarding flight from Doha to Sydney after a premature baby found in airport toilets.

Doha airport in Qatar 'examined women internally' after newborn baby found www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-54682565

It happened because it was on the territory of a nation that has no respect for women, and that women of most nations are pretty compliant with authority, on the whole. The fact that Australian women were involved will probably make it an international incident. I certainly hope so.

If the baby was drowned/dead, then it’s a potential murder investigation then and they have to make sure the mother isn’t fleeing the country. It’s concerning, and Australia has rightly raised concerns. But I can’t condemn it on so little information.

TheMarzipanDildo · 25/10/2020 19:47

I hope they had some serious evidence on which to base those examinations.

Queenoftheashes · 25/10/2020 20:23

Like fuck. This is a country that uses slave labour.

HMSSophie · 25/10/2020 20:38

Shit fuck wank bastard bastards. Omg. We're just objects.

SimonJT · 25/10/2020 20:40

Qatar, so sadly not a surprise. They use slaves, when their ill, old etc they ‘vanish’. Vile place.

PlanDeRaccordement · 25/10/2020 21:40

Slavery is abolished in Qatar. But yes modern day slavery does exist there, just like it does everywhere else in the world.

Some comments on here are starting to get prejudiced/racist. Yes Qatar has human rights issues surrounding the exploitation of immigrants/migrant workers. So say that instead of inflammatory nonsense implying that slavery is legal there when it isn’t.

I'm confused - the article says the baby is being cared for. Can I ask why you are questioning whether the poor baby is dead?
indub · 26/10/2020 03:13

It doesn't justify the method in any way. Have them pee on a stick and those who test pregnant can have further questioning. Not warrantless rape.

Tell that to the Bangladeshi slaves who aren’t paid, don’t have access to their passports and are owned.

On any level it was a gross abuse of human rights to subject women to an intimate medical examination in circumstances in which they are unlikely to have been able to give proper consent (some were described as ‘young girls’).

Yes having a child outside marriage is a crime in Qatar but these women had not necessarily committed any crime. There appeared to be no evidence justifying a medical examination (women were picked at random, as one of the Australian women taken off the plane but not searched, describes).

This is an indicator not only of a country that does not respect human rights and in particular women’s rights (that isn’t xenophobic, its a statistical fact) but also that there is an increasing division with many Middle Eastern countries (not helped by Trump).

Awful, awful incident. Hope the Australian embassy insists on a thorough inquiry.

As I understand it a pregnancy test only works at the beginning of pregnancy.

That is still invasive. A state should not subject anyone to any medical test without consent.

Innocent until proven guilty... unless you are a woman.

SunsetScreech · 26/10/2020 10:20

This is horrendous

Wherehavetheteletubbiesgone · 26/10/2020 10:28

Sorry but i wouldn't go to Qatar or indeed any middle eastern country except Israel you know what you are letting yourself in for. It's hardly news that these countries don't respect women or at least you don't get equal rights.

NewlyGranny · 26/10/2020 11:41

But, but... How did they know which people to pull off the planes?

Because biological sex is meaningless, we're reliably told, and you need to look into people's souls to read their true gender. 🙄 How many poor penis-havers inevitably got caught up in this?
