A Woman's Medal

AvocadoBathroom · 20/10/2020 00:40

We need some kind of woman's medal we can award to certain women who fight for us.
I propose a silver Lily.

I'm awarding it to JK Rowling, Magdelaine Berns, Jenni Murray, Maya Forstater, Keira Bell, Rosie Duffield...
Please add.

Hear hear!

@ChattyLion

Seconding Cherry and McAlpine as the Parliamentary early supporters on this and adding David TC Davies MP for hosting women when nobody else would
One of those isn't eligible.Grin (Any good male ally wouldn't want us to waste our resources giving them a medal anyway)

Can't believe we got so far in before we had Posie.

Posie, Posie, Posie.

All the women who were robbed of a podium position in their chosen sports. A woman's medal in recognition of your actual achievement.

Just to add a negative remark, that if the medal is to mean anything then Jenni Murray does not deserve any medal. Sorry!

She kept quiet to keep her job, and then only after retiring and getting a petion spoke out whilst other have lost their jobs for being honest.

And have just seen she has been Chair of Fawcett who have totally failed women and the protection of women's rights.

For the medal to mean anything it should be for women who have stood their ground and not played the establishment game.

I am not demanding of anyone that should take a public stand if they dont want to, dont feel able to. After all many of us on mumsnet are annonymous because we dont feel able to be public.

That's why the medal should be for those women who not only put their head above the parapet but continue to do so.

No she didn't. She wrote an article, got vilified for it and was sanctioned by her employer.

Claire Graham for tirelessly explaining intersex doesn't mean sex isn't binary

Man Friday
The Girl Guides women

They took a lot of shit. They aren't politicians, or journalists, or other professionals. They are ordinary women, volunteers, mothers.

They are us.

EvenSupposing · 20/10/2020 15:21

Yes I was going to say Man Friday. Ovaries of steel.

Stickerwoman.

The as yet unnamed female prisoner who is the "face of the case" judicial review as reported in The Times today.

And whilst we are grateful for male allies (Glinner I am looking at you) and trans allies (especially Rose of Dawn) I'm sure they would be happy to clap for the women receiving this medal without needing to recieve one themselves for being decent humans.
