UPDATE on the bigoteering after this debate:

After the debate, Lord Cashman took to twitter to say that Baroness Nicholson was 'planning an assault on the guidance for inclusive sex and relationship education. I am up for the battle'. He misrepresents what was said and gets others to jump on the bandwagon. He fails to mention that the RSE guidance has already been updated or what's 'wrong' with it. The thread of followers think it's a 'battle' for LGBT rights', 'we stand for LGBT', 'I'm ready for the battle' and 'back to the dark days of section 28'.

Jameela Jamil (bless her) replies: 'If you care about the future of LGBTQ+ people, follow and support @mcashmanCBE ❤️ This is so troubling. ❤️". To which, Cashman replies: 'Thank you so much for your support: onwards we go. Together. Only together.'

Anyhoo...you can read what was actually said here Hansard Transcript of House of Lords Gender Recognition Act GRA questions which quite simply was this: Baroness Nicholson said thanks for the NEW DfE RSE guidance and can we meet to discuss the issues with the OLD guidance and materials used by schools. she just wanted the DofE to make good that they would check appropriate material was being used in schools. You know the OLD materials that tell children they were born in the wrong body or have no scientific basis or teach them about anal sex.

Baroness Nicholson replied to Cashman asking for a meeting to discuss and Cashman replied No - you've done so much 'harm'

^ THIS is how bigoteering happens. This is how the APPG are compromised with activists using Government (taxpayer) money. Bigoteering is Falsely accusing someone (or someone’s opinions) as istor phobic. A Bigoteer elevatesthemselves by accusing people of being bigoted.This is a manipulation to exploit the stigmas accompanying such labels and force the opponent to spent time and energy explaining “why he/she is not a bigot”. Mumsnetters FWRs will recognise Cashmans bigoteering as the same tactic used by Stonewall, Mermaids and certain litigious trans activists: deny, accuse, block, repeat, don't get pinned down in an open fact-based discussion.

Cashman has deliberately misprepresented the Baroness and got his celebrity follwers like Ian Mckellan tweeting in support.

Meanwhile Helen Joyce has tracked down the tweet where Cashamn insisted Stonewall were not and had not tried to remove sex as a protected characteristic and even when provided wth the evidence from Stonewall's own website, refused to back down

Second Order Bigoteering: someone will side with one party in a conflict without investigating the source of the problem or the nature of the dispute, then spin arguments to explain their support. An ‘Ovine’ unquestioning 'herd'

no id put them firmly as first order bigoteers because all of those people know exactly what is going on, they just handwave away any attempt at talking about it as transpobic bigotry

Lord Cashman, or as I like to call him Barry from Eastenders, should keep his beak out of educational guidance.

"The harm has been done by wilful misrepresentation of the Equalities act to the detriment of women. How dare we make a stand against such a thing"

Cashman bigoteering this morning:

It wasn't attacked. the new DfE guidance prevents harmful school toolkits that hurt kids and in particular LGB kids.

KJM makes a good point - Baroness Grender implies that 'certain groups' (transgendertrend, safeschools alliance) are getting funding from shady sources.

KJM hopes they get legal advice for this
