27-28th April 21.

From the Crowd Justice update too: The free speech organisation Index on Censorship has also been given permission to intervene to highlight the legal issues around freedom of speech.

I've got everything crossed that she'll be vindicated and some sanity will be restored.

GRC are not shown to private individuals (ie not someone acting in a professional capacity) so 'legal sex' is irrelevant when private individuals are talking between themselves. Even if someone did show their GRC to a private individual it still has no bearing on them. A GRC is about officialdom not about forcing individuals to pretend in private.

Good.
Pleased.

Giving this a bump because Maya's appeal is in 10 days!

Still needs some digging if anyone can help/share, and it seems she has a new Crowdjustice page due to law firm moving (pinned tweet on Maya's twitter timeline has the link).

Good luck Maya 🤞

I think she'll lose it.

Leafstamp · 17/04/2021 13:31

I’ll be cheering her on.

Nice little video here from Maya for anyone new to the case:

Shizuku · 17/04/2021 13:31

I'm with the judge - her views are not worthy of respect in democratic society. It'll be interesting to see how the appeal goes.

Leafstamp · 17/04/2021 13:39

Maya’s solicitors will be arguing that the judge erred in law:

If the Employment Tribunal had correctly made the essential distinction between belief and action, without merging hypothetical (speculative, future) harmful action into Ms Forstater’s belief, it would have concluded that her belief is ‘worthy of respect in a democratic society’.

yourhairiswinterfire · 17/04/2021 13:43

Thanks for posting that video Leaf :)

Thanks 😊

It's been a long wait but it's nearly here.

My legal team are brilliant. My QC - Ben Cooper represented Allison Bailey in her hearing. Hopefully he will be on top form.

Happy to answer Qs here if I can

CardinalLolzy · 17/04/2021 13:57

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it specifically the belief that sex is real and immutable that was deemed "not worthy of respect in a democratic society"?

Great to see you on here MForstater! And that's a helpful summary Leaf!

Oblomov21 · 17/04/2021 14:04

I knew this. It's being talked about by other lawyers apparently. My lawyer friend, who is closely connected to the whole thing, still thinks this won't result in success.

Then you also consider the people posting here are not worthy of respect?
CardinalLolzy · 17/04/2021 14:09

Not to be thread police but let's stick to the case and appeal itself, shall we? Various posters have expressed themselves on other matters on other threads (in general, I'm not referring to any specific thread).

HerewardTheWoke · 17/04/2021 14:33

Good luck Maya. This is one of the most important GC cases at the moment, as the fear of losing employment is what is preventing many women from speaking out. There will doubtless be a huge surge of feminist activism if you win.

On some spurious legal grounds, or based on the ludicrous statement that the belief that sex is real and immutable is not worthy of respect in a democratic society?
Signalbox · 17/04/2021 14:44

Good luck Maya. I can't wait. I've got a good feeling about this one.

Eppur, si muove.
JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 17/04/2021 14:46

I didn't realise her appeal was so soon. The original judgement was an absolute travesty.

If you were familiar with our friend Shizuku's posts you wouldn't need to ask...

Lovely sunny day for doing me digging.

JoodyBlue · 17/04/2021 14:57

Good luck @MForstater This really matters to so many of us and we are routing for the appeal to return sense. Not one of us would deliberately misgender to cause hurt. But we do need to be able to speak factually about some things. You are an icon of courage to many women.

ArabellaScott · 17/04/2021 14:58

Good luck, Maya. Will dig later.

GreyhoundG1rl · 17/04/2021 15:25

Thank you, Maya

PandorasMailbox · 17/04/2021 15:56

Good Luck @MForstater. I'll get my trowel out Smile
