According to British Cycling, it seems you can change your sex marker once every four years - what's that about?

Anyway, TWAW. Testosterone is the only thing that matters. Longer legs, larger lungs etc, piffle.

FFS, I had a run in with the national body for DS's contact sport re their trans policy. They quote EA exemptions but still say gender identity trumps biology. It's so fucking wearing to have to go through this repeatedly.

Everyone knows that it isn't just testosterone that separates women and men when it comes to sports but STILL they go on about reducing levels meaning it's fair competition.

talesofginza · 09/10/2020 19:59

Totally ridiculous. I wonder when they'll also become more inclusive of trans-disabled and trans-age individuals, given that all systematic physical differences are apparently all in our minds...

Truthlikeness · 09/10/2020 20:36

The Football Association's guidance for transpeople in football includes such gems as...

"On occasions a trans woman may be a better player than some of her team mates, or even the best player on the team . as with any other player, this may reflect a range of factors including her physical capacity, her temperament, past access to playing opportunities and coaching, and the time and effort she has invested in practice and skills development . her status as a woman should not be questioned simply because she is good at football – being good at football is to be celebrated."

Oml - well given the other thread about the EHRC guidance on sport, it’s all very confusing

A lot of men, at least one transwoman, and an intersex woman ( if I remember correctly) and a few women.

Meant to post this first -the people who came up with the IOC guidelines

I once checked that list for number of Y chromosomes. I've forgotten exactly what the number was but ludicrously high for the body making the decision on women's sports.Angry

Some good news here. From the policy.

"The Equality Act 2010 makes specific provision for sports organisations to prohibit or restrict a person whose gender has become the acquired gender under the Act from participating as competitors in an Event or events involving a gender-affected sport... Such prohibition or Restrictions can only be made in order to secure fair competition or the safety of competitors at the event or events. "

Oh yes, they finally get it, this means they realise that an exception can be applied, transwomen excluded and competition remains fair for females. Oh no .... Wait

"For competitive events, British Cycling will follow the guidelines as set out by the IOC, and more recently, the UCI when determining the eligibility of trans competitors."

Total cop out.

If this is a new policy and BC are a public body should they do am Equality Impact Assessment? Wonder what that would look like?

Equality Impact Assessments are meaningless if the assessor works from the TWAW position.

If the cyclist is under 18 then the 'change of gender' declaration must also be signed by a parent/guardian.
But if a child wants to change gender at school - then the school can't tell the parents or 'out them'. No very consistent.

I wonder why it is 5 nmol max - I thought other sports had 10nmol max - or do most sports bodies who have fallen for this now go with 5 nmol.

Wizzers · 10/10/2020 17:13

@jellyslice yes exactly, I'd like to know what evidence they did consider.

Given the IOC rules British Cycling have probably assumed that the IOC have some science behind their rules, which in reality was based on nothing more than transwomen are weaker than they once were so if both sides make a compromise then it is and to I quote the UCI here 'as fair as possible' and who said that human rights isn't a pie (or cake) but it is exactly that, women have to give away rights they once had.
