I got an email from Audible (photo attached) to tell me to delete the version I already have and upload their new one, mostly with changes made to the name of the character "Lisa" - their quotes. What is this all about? I haven't read it yet or listened but it's strange

Some chapters ending abruptly?
Have people been complaining about the writing style to Audible to try and get JK cancelled?

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 07/10/2020 10:29

I think there were some issues with Ilsa (ilsa) become Isla (isla) part way through? Don't think it's anything sinister.

bellinisurge · 07/10/2020 10:29

WTF?

Flaunch · 07/10/2020 10:30

The character is called Ilsa and has been since the first book. For some reason she’s called Isla in this audible version.

It was very annoying!

Rosesandmint · 07/10/2020 10:30

Yes it's nothing sinister. As MyVisions says, the character Ilsa is called Isla throughout. It's just an error from the narrator.

SnarkWeek · 07/10/2020 10:31

One of the on-going characters is called Ilsa, when the book first came out, her name was pronounced Isla throughout, it was really annoying and jarred every time. Looks like they’ve had some complaints and sorted it, nothing sinister.

Enjoy the book, I think it’s the best in the series so far!

SnarkWeek · 07/10/2020 10:32

Sorry, cross posted with everyone!

OneEpisode · 07/10/2020 10:35

I think it’s the reader (Robert Glenister) being inconsistent between books how to pronounce the character name “Ilsa”. This is a recurring character in the series so they have had complaints!

OneEpisode · 07/10/2020 10:35

And another apology. Slow.

Davros · 07/10/2020 11:29

That's good news. I saw it and it seemed suspicious, of all the many, many books I've got on Audible this is the first time I've seen anything like this. They should have let Gene Hunt read it!

I did see this complaint repeatedly on the Audible purchase page, when I was going to buy it. It made me laughm because the low ratings were genuinely meant: there were tech issues, rather than the ideological issues which plagued the Goodreads reviews. Grin

So Jasper Chiswell narrates the Strike audiobooks? That’s tickled me Grin
Thimbleberries · 07/10/2020 21:05

Chizzle or Chis-well? that seemed to be a pointer to what to think about a characte in the previous books!

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 07/10/2020 21:16

I have been most put out about Ilsa in this book, but I don't think I'll change it now with just 3 hours to go.!

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 07/10/2020 23:15

I was so relieved to get this email, I honestly thought I'd lost my mind about half way through when he changed her name.

FairFriday · 07/10/2020 23:55

That reminds me. I am still waiting to hear back from Audible’s ‘relevant department’ regarding my query about their advertising on here, and a member of their staff gobbing off on social media. When was that again - July?

TabbyStar · 08/10/2020 11:16

Have people spotted the mention of a man who wears latex under his work clothes, and another fetish appearing (which I'm sure many FWR regulars spotted a mile off but I won't add as a spoiler)? It's given me a laugh Grin

GoingAroundBeingAWoman · 08/10/2020 11:27

What's annoying is how a capital "i" looks just like a lowercase letter "l".

It grates occasionally; I always think LinkedIn looks daft, for example.

BookWitch · 08/10/2020 11:37

I'm currently about half way through on Audible and got that email as well, i didn't see it as sinister either.

It's very good.
Apart from the very minor cross-dressing plot, there is a fair amount of feminism shining through.
Not wanting to spoil it for anyone, there is a great dinner party when Strike turns up drunk, has a go at some woke students and Robin finally has a go at Strike for being a dickhead and taking her for granted.

RoyalCorgi · 08/10/2020 12:52

Yes, indeed - I spotted the second fetish very quickly. When Robin and Cameron didn't twig instantly I started to wonder if this was a rare false note or whether perhaps I am now unusually well-versed in male sexual fetishes.

langclegflavoredbananamush · 08/10/2020 12:52

I was a bit confused at first by Ilsa being called Ayla, surprising slip up there.

I find it a bit maddening feeling I ought not discuss details from the books in light of the crapstorm being directed at JK Rowling, because spoilers.
But I think it would be much easier to make a disingenuous case for Robert Galbraith's books being misogynistic than transphobic. One of the first characters to appear in the series is an unbalanced, emotional and physically abusive woman. We also have, for example, a mention of a woman actually "performing femininity" to put people off their guard for nefarious purposes, and, and, I won't say the points I'd really like to here because spoilers are bad and mean.

RightOnTheEdge · 08/10/2020 13:08

The Ilsa/Isla thing was very annoying and then it changed near the end.

I don't know how audio books work but surely someone listens to them before they are released. How could it have gone unnoticed? Confused

Possibly, and sadly, the latter!

Anyone with an ounce of feminist analysis would see it's an extremely feminist book. Almost radfem in fact Wink we see you Joanne 😘

And early reference to the need for a “Shit Hot Lawyer” had me convinced that it’s not just the FWB that JKR peruses.

Loving the book and couldn’t adore her more 😍
