Please help a newbie understand. Is Jigsaw ‘OK’ for school?

Apologies for the title, and my total lack of understanding around this.
I have dipped in and out of this board of the last year or so and now question things that previously I wouldn’t have thanks to Mumsnet.
Primary school have a new Chairperson who is very pro LGBT and gender fluidity (unsure if that’s the right wording and really don’t wish to offend anyone) as they are trans them self, have gender fluid children, and have introduced Jigsaw to the school.
Is Jigsaw a part of Stonewall? I know not much but I do know I feel strongly that only female women have periods, and that those like JK Rowling who do speak up are not then victims of hate crime.
I can’t explain it but I do feel uneasy about this new appointment and feel totally out of my depth.

There was a long thread about the updated guidance from Dept of Education released 2 weeks ago

I believe jigsaw push the born in the wrong body narrative & as such their materials will not be compliant

Safe schools alliance is a good place to look as well

Have a search for threads discussing Jigsaw materials OP. I've seen a few and from reading them and doing my own research I would say, in a word, no.

Some posters have personal experiences and have noted them on this board so it's worth looking back to find the details.

The new DfE guidance is very helpful right now, it's clear what is and isn't recommended so any thoughts you might have can be framed in the context of brand new advice.
I don't know if Jigsaw fit into the prescribed framework or not, but it seems other posters may have more experience.

You might find this thread useful.

This is a very recent thread, I think some posters are trying to find out more. Our consultation isn't until next year and tbh I don't feel it fair to bother the school with it at the moment. (Covid)

Alas, the fastest button wins. Grin

I would just send a general email with a link to the DfE guidance asking them how they intend to ensure they comply with it.

TyroBurningDownTheCloset · 06/10/2020 17:48

Yep, we're still trying to find out more. Schools can't email over the teaching resources for us to have a look, which makes it harder. There's a parent information leaflet, easily googleable (and I think linked in the recent thread) which defines transgender as "feeling female" which sets off alarm bells, and kids taught using Jigsaw resources have come home with the idea that it's possible to literally be born in the wrong body.

I'm hoping DD's school will get back to me quickly (they're normally very good) and if they're doubling down on the use of Jigsaw I'll be angling to go in and see the resources myself.

Brilliant thank you all. Knew you’d all be there!

I’ve been searching and saw that thread (DFE) so will put together an email to send to the school. Any pointers on what to include please let me know. Don’t really want to say I’ve read experiences off Mumsnet but equally examples are powerful aren’t they.

You don't have to say where you've heard about others' experiences, you can just say something like "Anecdotally, there have been instances of blah blah blah."

Or you could just zero straight in on the point: "In light of new DofE guidance advising schools not to bring harmful stereotypes into the classroom, how do you propose to adequately cover the topic of transgenderism?"
