One of our (SSA) supporters wrote to her school about their use of the Genderbread graphic. I know it has been talked about a lot on here. The school agreed with her and have withdrawn it. She agreed that we could share her letter which is on our website.

Please use and share.

Well done, OP. Speaking as one of those tomboys who grew up safely in a more enlightened age — thanks for protecting children now.

Brilliant. Thanks for sharing.

Do we have any idea of the percentage of schools that have swallowed this nonsense?

Thegenderbreadperson · 04/10/2020 10:46

It’s always rolled out at LGBT training for adult professionals - it’s discussed afterwards how ridiculous it is, yet nobody wants to challenge it for fear of being reported to their manager as transphobic...

The new government guidelines give parents a perfect opportunity to challenge any resources which are based on this (concept. But it will require parents to question and challenge.

This is a great resource. Last week I approached my DS’s school as they were using it. I went in for a meeting and they were receptive to most of my points but they insisted on continuing the genderbread worksheet. I then sent them the resource linked to in the OP and had a speedy response saying they’d withdrawn the LGBTQ lessons pending a full review into their content and the resources they use.

Now is a perfect time to speak to your DC’s schools, and Safe Schools Alliance can assist you if you need some support.I strongly urge you to get on top of this, because with the release of the new DFE guidance they will be in a corner, and hopefully a bit of a nudge is all that will be necessary to get them to withdraw anything questionable.

I've done a lot of reading and researching this topic, and even I'm shocked at the "Sexualitree" as referred to in that letter.

It seems to me that parents are having to do a level of due diligence that is way above and beyond what we should be doing when we drop our kids off at the school gates. Hopefully as that letter shows, the new guidelines will mean things change but as that letter also shows, we are still going to have to be up late researching what schools are planning to teach.

Agreed beargrass. It's schools, not parents that should be doing the due diligence with parents being able to trust that they've not bought into anti -safeguarding harmful ideologies.
It might also be worth dropping into conversations with schools that the lawyers are starting to circle looking for young people who have been harmed by the trans ideology and suggesting they keep full details of all the groups and individuals who they have allowed to "train" teachers and speak to children about this - after all, they'd want to be prepared for any lawsuits wouldn't they? Wink
