Came across this thread on Twitter a short while back, then couldn’t find it again. It discusses self-ID in Greece and unexpected consequences, including lesbian and gay couples where one of the couple changes legal sex in order to get married, as same-sex marriage still isn’t legal.
I don’t know enough about the Greek situation to comment on the accuracy and would be interested in hearing from anyone who does have more knowledge.
It interested me as another anomaly - having the legal ability to change your sex in another country where same-sex marriage is still not legal.
I was also struck by the obvious inference that people would change their sex for reasons other than being transsexual. Not that I regard changing sex to marry as nefarious, but that it’s a perfect example of how a law that allows legal sex change will be used for other reasons than the people it is supposedly brought in to benefit.
More information would be gladly received. And apologies if this has come up before. I did look when I originally saw (then couldn’t re-find) the thread, but couldn’t see anything.
