DofE Schools RSE Guidance Change - Why Now?

(apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere)

I find it interesting that with regard to last Friday's Government guidance changes for Schools Relationship and Sex Education, a commenter in The Times has pointed out that the Permanent Secretary for the Department of Education was a Senior Stonewall Champion who has just been forced to step down (due to the exams fiasco).

Stonewall said of him:

"He is the first Permanent Secretary to attend the Stonewall face-to-face feedback meeting to hear first-hand about how the department might build on the positive work that has already been started"

Well that might explain a few things don't you think?

Glad that the government now feels able to provide safe and sensible School RSE guidance!

I think that the government knew what was happening was unsustainable - MPs were getting complaints from parents and teachers citing clear examples of safeguarding problems with guidelines etc. As ever, it's the extreme overreach - few people could look at the toxic CPS guidelines and not go WTF!! And you're right, once you remove the senior Stonewall cheer leader, then it allowed others working in the DfE to raise concerns about safeguarding, queer theory being pushed at children and the rest. The forthcoming judicial reviews and organisations like Transgender Trend & Safe Schools Alliance exposing the torrent of porn, removal of girls rights, queer theory being pushed at kids became impossible to ignore.

Perhaps the government should look at a few other Permanent Secretaries and government Officials

I've posted this on another thread, but take a look at another story in the press today: the govt's instructions to the British museum.

The language is very similar to the DfE guidance. Plain English, mention of basically not allowing political activists to influence and interfere with balanced, rational policy. It feels as if something has tipped and across the departments notice is going out against regulatory capture by Twitter based activists. And lines are being drawn.

I would suspect the Baronness's work has played a good part in this.

Just pointing out that the new Perm Sec in Ed is Susan Acland-Hood. A woman.

Yes, her role in amplifying women's voices has been a huge boost. It really felt politicians were sticking their fingers in their ears saying "la la la can't hear you..." until she came along.

I think that now is the best time to start plugging all the newly-created holes in schools policies now that they're aware of sliding off course (i.e. gender instead of sex in school equality and diversity policies etc.)
