You may not be able to read the whole article because its behind a paywall.

What Senator Chandler wrote:

“The row followed Anti-Discrimination Commissioner Sarah Bolt’s decision to accept a complaint against Senator Chandler over a statement –— emailed to a constituent –– that read: “Women’s sport, women’s toilets and women’s changing rooms are designed for the female sex and should remain that way.”

“Senator Chandler, who has been outspoken on the issue since her election to federal parliament in 2019, has publicly called on the commissioner to dismiss the complaint, and on Wednesday last week emailed a letter to Ms Bolt saying she would not withdraw or amend her statement.”

The Anti-Discrimination Commissioner then made this statement:

“Legal action can be taken against any person who uses insulting language towards any person exercising any power under the Anti-Discrimination Act,” the email said. It warned that those who “hinder” or “use insulting language” against the commissioner could be fined.”

“The clear implication here is that they don’t only want me to stop speaking about this issue more broadly, they also want me to tell other Australians to do the same,” Senator Chandler said.”

“Ms Bolt said Senator Chandler’s comments in the email were “problematic … a reasonable person is likely to anticipate a person who is a member of the LGBTIQ+ and gender diverse community would be humiliated, intimidated, offended and insulted,” she said in accepting the complaint.”

Self-ID was the pet project of Robin Banks, who was the recent Tasmanian Anti-discrimination Commissioner that is threatening this action.

Banks and Co. railroaded self-ID through with the cooperation of other state institutions she is affiliated with, and it passed the state Upper House into law by a single rogue vote from the egomaniac Speaker of the House Sue Hickey, who was only installed in the position post-election with the assistance of a woman from the Greens party (who has a trans identified daughter). Doesn't take a genius to work out what kinds of conversations might have happened there.

No wonder they want to shut Sen. Chandler up, she's threatening to ruin their comfortable little fiefdom.

I'm really hoping the UK government's rejection of self-ID will start causing ripples in other countries. If only we had anyone other than the Tories backing women on this. But I'm grateful that they are.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 28/09/2020 11:20

a reasonable person is likely to anticipate a person who is a member of the LGBTIQ+ and gender diverse community would be humiliated, intimidated, offended and insulted,” she said in accepting the complaint.” And the feelings of women??? Women would feel all of those and potentially at risk of physical harm...

Why isn't that thrown back every bloody time somebody utters this mealy mouthed shite?

To update: Sen. Chandler's conciliation meeting has been cancelled at the request of the Tasmanian Anti-discrimination Commission, but so far the complaint has not been dropped. Sen. Chandler refused to sign a confidentiality agreement.

Sen. Chandler has requested that a public statement be given, explaining the position of the Commissioner and making clear that women are allowed to discuss their sex-based rights.

She's got guts.
I don't vote Liberal, disagree with her on much, but she's a brave woman on this.

This is sorely needed. I look forward to seeing how this plays out. It is worrisome some of the Acts that have been past in Qld and ACT lately while people are focused on Covid.

(By the way.... am feeling like a chocolate crackles baking session. Although, copha substitutes are not quite right)

Word is the complainant has dropped the matter. I bet the disgraceful anti-discrimination commissioner Sarah Bolt had something to do with this- she didn’t have the mettle to stand up to Claire. Well done, Senator Chandler, for staring down the bullies.

TheKrakening3 · 01/10/2020 06:35

Senator Chandler’s statement. Thank-you Claire!

You can write to her in support (you don’t have to share her politics!)
