Not just the established ageism and sexism but the fact that many radio programmes are now have web cams. Its as though programme makers think no one will listen if they can see the presenter is an older woman. Sad

Interesting. I have often wondered why the intersection of sex and age is not one online feminists spend much time studying, because clearly aging is seen very differently in men and women.

And it made me think Emma Barnett will always wonder whether she got the job on Women's Hour because of her skill or whether she has the looks of some sort of Barbie clone.

I'm not denying her the choice of how she wants to look, but in a world where men make choices based on their prejudices it must lurk at the back of the mind.

Sad

By the way I do oftern see this discussed online - maybe it is a mumsnet problem.

eg this article prior to the BBC one www.ft.com/content/e3a89dc2-d08e-11e9-b018-ca4456540ea6

And came across this organisation (which admittedly uses the word gender rather than sex) ageing-equal.org/ageism-and-gender/

It does get discussed on here, although perhaps more often commented on as a fact of life. Quite a lot of us on FWR are on the older side now ourselves.

The media is terrible for this. I often wonder where all the over 50s go to at the BBC. It's like some kind of Logans Run. I've made it to 57 but redundancy is calling ..
